I go with my Chimaera to informal sprint days at Curborough (near Lichfield - WS13 8EJ if you want to look at it on Google maps/aerial photos), organised by some nice young geezers once a month. They run a three lap course that is challenging, interesting and fun.

This month's event was originally scheduled for this Thursday and was fully booked, but the date has had to be changed at the last moment (due to an influx of pork on Thursday), so the date has been moved at short notice to this FRIDAY (23rd May).

The days are huge fun, you will probably do 20-30 runs during the day, which will be as many as you want, use about 50 miles fuel and have a broad grin on your face as you try to be best in class against all the other TVRs. There are five TVRs already booked - lets see how many we can get! There will be a nice mix of other cars, including some exotica and some ordinary stuff. There is an 18 car limit for the day to make sure that you don't have to wait long between runs, and it runs from 9.30 to 5.30, but come along as and when you like. A fish and chip run is done at lunchtime (£5), and there is a meet at the pub afterwards if you want to go.

Standard cars will be fine, track tyres a bonus if you have them. You don't need a helmet, but I choose to wear one. Bring your driving licence. The cost is normally £60, but this time due to the change of date, it is a stunning £40.

To join in, email Dan on sprintandtrackday@hotmail.co.uk.

Looking forward to it!

The list of those taking part is now:
SteveSPG (Tamora)
QBee (Chim)
Phazed (Chim)
AcidRich (Griff)
Rib (Chim)
an Arial Atom
an Ultima CanAm/Focus RS
a Caterham R500
a Fuego race car
a Scooby
an MR2 Turbo
an MX5
a Peugeot 106
a Clio 197

So an interesting mix - remember, it is run in classes, so you will be up against the other TVRs.

'Twas a good day, a very different dicapline from track days!

If it was near I'd go on a regular basis.

It's fun trying to better your own times, (and others of course) but also fun hanging the tail out.

A good bunch of guys, thanks for the organisation and the chippy run smile

Right, bit delayed but here's my round up of the day

1st of all, just a quick thanks to Dan and the team for organising it and despite the last minute change of date due to the track organiser, we had a fantastic turn out, including 7 TVR's which for me was fantastic! Along with these though one of the regulars was there in his face bending supercharged Atom, a self built Can Am Ultima which I think stole the show, an R500 caterham which seemed to ignore the laws of physics at times aswell as a great mixture of cars from Fuegos and clios, to EP3's and Imprezzas.

Despite the forecast we had a pretty dry day, the odd spit of rain but nothing major. This ment the track was busy as everyone was wanting to get some times in before the rain might of come! despite this the wait was still never too bad but was probably the busiest I've know it from start to finish!

Within the TVR lot, we had a few new faces, 3 of which were all crazy in their own right. 1st up, Steve in what I believe is a relatively standard Tuscan, and the 1st driver I have met who truly knows how to handle them round the track! Truly driving on the edge and set some times which raised everyone's eyebrows within just a couple of laps. After a quite spectacular spin and hitting a mud mound he slowed down (not by much!) and gradually brought his times tumbling down and by the end of the day he set a fantastic time even beating the dominant GTR (aside from the caterfields etc)

Then there was Peter (Phazed) in his 5.5 Chim which really threw you back into your seat and certainly gave me engine envy! A good base time was set but struggled to beat it untill towards the end, as he said to me, its alot less relaxed than a traditional track day and can be very frustrating at times! Once he started to bring his times back down though the smile started coming back and set a very respectable time for a first day there, and I think could still shave around 2 seconds off his time with abit of fine tweaking.

Lastly was Steves LS3 Tamora, I believe was giving it a bit of a shakedown, and like the ultima struggled with traction at times but looked to be thoroughly enjoying himself with a sound akin to an old WW2 Spitfire!

Also we had Matt in the tuscan with no dash which certainly made gear changes plenty of fun! He set a 1'40.2 In seventh was Richard Cresswell with a 1'41.4 which I'm sure will be improved on as he's very keen on returning soon!

Nigel Pugh smashed the joint record with an incredible 1'21.8, which is a massive 0.9 seconds quicker than the previous time - considering the conditions, we were all surprised with the time! It certainly gives Nige an edge in the light hearted banter war! Kev in the Atom returned to his second home to set a new PB of 1'25.4 which moved him upto third in class, just above Russ Halley. With a set of new front tyres Kev could certainly be challenging the 1'22s! Third in class, and possibly stand out car of the day, was probably Mark Harries' wonderful LS powered Ultima. A tad big for the small confines of Curborough perhaps, Mark had oversteer on tap, and was very exciting to watch all day, he ended the day with a 1'29.0.

With being busy trying to get on track and take pics I didn't get chance to talk to everyone but was a great day ended as the rain started to come down come 5 o'clock and everyone I did manage to speak to had said they would love to come back again and had really good fun whilst not being pressured with other cars on track.

Thanks Dan,
Great day and well organised, looking forward to another when the work schedule allows.
Nice to meet all of you, a very friendly bunch and thanks to QBee for the loan of the jack to remove the greenhouse from under my car.
Thanks Rib for your comments, I'll try to close the gap on the R500 next time.
Steve.

He probably only seems 80 because you are so young.

He's really 48.
