Dumbbell tricep exercises WITHOUT using shoulder?
Discussion
Hoping for a bit of help here - I'm trying to work round a shoulder injury that's been referred up to an orthopaedic specialist and will most likely need surgery to put right.
Advice from the Doc in the meantime is to rest it and not aggravate it but I don't want to just stop exercising completely so plan to run, cycle etc. I'd like to do some dumbbell stuff as well, to try and keep strength in my upper body and can obviously do bicep curls without engaging my shoulder but what about triceps?
Is there anything I can do to just isolate that muscle without needing my shoulder to support?
The list of things I can't do is annoying large:
Push-ups
Pull ups
Dips
Bench press
Shoulder press
Etc etc
Hate injuries!

What's your injury and what have the specialist/physio said?
Contracting the biceps can put a lot of pressure on the shoulder and running can be horrible for various parts of the body. I know I'm not answering your question but I'd get proper advice from a sports surgeon or sports physio and go on what they say

I'm at the mercy of the NHS sadly! The sooner the better as it's a nightmare happening right at the start of the summer...wakeboarding and climbing right off the agenda and sailing and biking proving hard enough...http://www.shoulderdoc.co.uk/article.asp?section=1...
