When you bought your new Supercar (or highly priced used model) What level of treatment did you get from the dealership? I don't just mean level of politeness etc...rather more like: Did you or you wife receive a bouquet of collection? or Champagne? or anything??? Or was it just 'turn up, sign the paperwork, handover and drive away?

Interested to hear your stories..

I bought a used 430 spider from a well known dealer, cost £85k, I don't know if thats classed as high value or not anymore, but on picking the car up after paying for it 10 days earlier(plenty of notice), it hadn't even been cleaned, it was filthy (a detail was part of the deal). On mentioning this to the dealer, I was offered a £100 valet. I didn't take them up.

That's appalling and shouldn't happen on a £8,500 Fiesta.

Ferrari dealer, 2 new F12 purchases -

Did you or your wife receive a bouquet of collection? NOPE

or Champagne? NOPE. Doubt they would know the difference between Prosecco, Tesco value champagne and any other.

or anything??? A crap key ring I suggested they keep.

Full tank of fuel? NOPE.

Or was it just 'turn up, sign the paperwork, handover and drive away? YEP.

Meridian were great to me, all the classiest chocolates and coffee a person could want, fabulous.
And only 10k premium for the car, wow! On a serious note it does amaze me that you can spend 60k plus and be treated less well than a person buying a ford, iThats fact! Mike

Have no experience of supercar buying but in terms of general car buying from main dealers - my perception is that if you're going to get special treatment at all, it'll be when the salesperson is trying to seal the deal. While you'd hope for continued professionalism during the process leading up until collection, in the eyes of the dealer the hard work has already been done perhaps?

Fully understand why you'd expect something better if you're shelling out big money for a car though. I imagine that you'd get the full red carpet treatment if collecting a P1, 918, LaFerrari. I'd also assume that if buying from a more 'boutique' marque like Pagani or Koenigsegg, even Bugatti, you'd be made to feel special - factory visits and the like. In those cases, the customer base is going to be a lot smaller and more discerning, and so the personal touch would be likely and even expected. (I remember reading about Harry Metcalfe getting texts from Horacio Pagani, for example. Maybe he does that for all owners, maybe it's because of all the free publicity he got from Evo...?!)

I bought a F430 Spider from a company called Maundrell & Co. Been meaning to do a write up.

In summary however; they have been the best dealer I have ever dealt with. While the car has needed a little work they have been more than happy to help and shown the kind of service that will make me go back. Already thinking about buying a second car from them actually. Delivered the car to my door and were more than happy to sit and chat about things.

Graypaul Birmingham, Aston Reading, Top555, Porsche Sutton Coldfield, Porsche Nottingham, McLaren Birmingham, Simon Furlonger all excellent, no flowers or champagne (why would I want that, really?!) just really efficient handling of the deal and proper service.

It was fully detailed and very clean, but no chocs, bubbles or cheesy stuff like that. It was just grin, sign, shake, drive off, grin again.

Another gold star for Sevenoaks Lamborghini , bought an f430 over a year ago, flew my wife and I from Scotland, collected by flying spur from gatwick, spent time with us at the dealership, car immaculate and unforeseen niggles taken care of as they occurred.

I got flowers from Graypaul. Guess I'm more attractive than you.

My most recent experiences have been the best:

Kier Chappell at Chappell Sports Cars in Chichester. Bought three 911s from him in the last 2 years and it's been a pleasure. Knows his stuff, genuine Porsche nut and as helpful as they come. Full tank of fuel on collection, fully valeted (as new), took time to take me through new PCM systems.

Tim at Walkersport. I don't need to say too much more than has been said before. When I return to the Ferrari fold it will more than likely be with one of his cars. On both viewing and collection Tim picked me up from nearest station, spent more time than he needed to taking me around the car, and gave me a trickle charger (and some Ferrari gloves!) on collection.

At the end of the day both Tim and Kier are genuine and decent people, who will help at all times if you ask/need it. I'd rather have decent back up after sales than a new pen or bottle of wine on collection but then strangely ignore you if you have a problem or a query. I'd also prefer to give my money to someone who has added something to the process.

As for the worst, well they come up in conversation a lot. As much as i'd like to give full rundown of events I will be breaking pistonheads rules. But at least when I am after a particular piece of Italian exotica I will know where to avoid.

Dick Lovett - Ferrari where great when I first started looking and have been outstanding since to me and I cannot recommend them too highly from Matthew Beard downwards. They will be top of my list when the F12 is being considered...

It's a good question actually, since the first two high end cars I bought, over 10 years ago, from Maranellos in Egham, showed me that price has no bearing on whether you get made a fuss of. It was hand over the cash and fk off. I remember being a bit shocked by this. Over time though, I've come to realise that this stuff is pretty meaningless, I mean who really wants all that branded tat?

What really counts is after the purchase and Joe Macaris in Wandsworth have been fantastic. I called Andrew Gill one Friday evening at midnight because my 456 alarm wouldn't disarm and I couldn't get home. He came out of a club and sorted out a recovery for me (the car did in fact reset by itself). I'll always remember that. He also gave me some gorgeous factory prints of the F50 that were produced in 1996 when the car was launched, because he had them hanging around. You can keep your hats, key rings and flowers thanks all the same, I'll settle for truly outstanding aftersales.
