I am quite keen to get the short shifter in soon but I am also curious about the gear linkage kit available from elise parts etc.

Does it make a marked difference or is it just an expensive box of washers?

After these the cat is coming out (no gay cat jokes please) and the ali throttle body is going in. These are my new years resolutions 2005

The theory is that if you get the linkage you get the short shift kit too. My car came with it already fitted, so have nothign to compare it to..... I like it mind!

Get the throttle body from mgfcentre.com - second hand out of an mgf, 1/3 the price and no different from a new one! It is a 10 minute job to fit and that is if you are really bad at these things!

Big yes to the linkage.

Fitted one to my first car. Second car is still standard and much less precise as a result. On the to do list. It's important that it's done by someone who knows what they're doing - it's fiddly.

Never bothered with the short shift - couldn't see the point - gear lever not exactly long throw in the first place. Surely a shorter lever puts it a longer reach away from the wheel? Or am I mistaken?

the lever isnt that much shorter - not that youd notice anyway...but the shift point on it is, so it reduces the throw between gears - some people like them, others dont. Best try a car with one fitted. If I drive a std car with no short shoft, the shifter and action feels like it should be on a HGV !

for the sake of 2 hours labour (say £100) at a specialist, I wouldnt attemp it myself...too much hassle and mucking around...if youve done a few before then no doubt its easier
