V8 Vantage Tyre advice please
Discussion
I have tried the search engine but to not much avail. I am looking into changing the tyres on my Vantage and have read on here that some have changed to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, first question how have you found them in comparison to the recommended Bridgestone REO50A.
Secondly there seem to be various versions out there XL, non XL etc apart from the obvious sizes and the usual comments of round black ones
what should I be looking for.
Thanks in advance for any help and recommendations and sorry if this has been done to death before and I am just not finding the right threads to read.

Michelin website says this is the one if you're going the Super Sport route - http://shop.atseuromaster.co.uk/tyres/michelin/pil...
Also the cheapest I've found.

£100 'off' a set of 4 19" tyres. Stopped at the end of April though.
Ah!...Bu@@er. !£100 'off' a set of 4 19" tyres. Stopped at the end of April though.

I've moved to Goodyear F1 Eagle Assymetric II's, much quieter, grippier and better feel than the Bridgestones - I've gone to the "sport tyre" sizes 245 front and 285 rear to give a little more protection to the rims. Price wise they are much of a muchness.
Can't comment on wear yet, but I'm not heavy on my tyres having got 15k out of the rears and 20k out of the fronts
I looked into PSS but at the time there were none in stock anywhere and no ETA.

Thanks MikeI notice that the PSSs you were looking at were quite a bit a higher load rating than the Bridgestones, is that likely to have any detrimental effect on the handling or ride?
Have a look at this. It should put your mind to rest:

higher load rating means tyre walls are stiffer, which may well affect ride comfort and handling
That was what I thought hence the request for feedback from people who have fitted them. I am thinking that due to the weight of the car the effect may well be minimal but interested to find out before shelling out around £900 on them.Laser Sag said:

It's actually the opposite. The Michelins are better in every way, IMHO.

If there is any effect of the different load rating, it is too subtle for me to detect.

Thanks for that, just the type of reply I was looking for. Combine that with the weight reduction and better results in tyre comparison tests and it looks a simple decision. There is no compromise in the ride or handling with the Michelin PSS.
