Omega questions

Does anyone know more about this watch?

Any feedback on the seller and the price? I started looking at Omegas on the thread here and see some older watches. I'm rather taken with this one for some reason.
I'm guessing it's a minefield with what is genuine and what is replaced/refurbished.

They are, nine times out of ten, 'Frankenwatches' i.e. made up of other bits of other Omegas or whatever can be made to fit into the case. But then for a few hundred quid...
The fact it's in India is the biggest turn-off; generally the cases have suffered horribly in the humidity (stainless wasn't up to much in the 50s-60s) and are often severely corroded. I'm sure there are good-uns, but the consensus is to avoid them as the same watch can be bought in the UK on eBay for the same money.

The dial doesn't look too bad in the picture (and surprisingly it doesn't appear to be too corroded either) but who knows what it will look like in reality.
I doubt that the case does measure 37mm too and suspect that the crown has been included to bump this up.
They always use a military style design dial, but virtually no watches were made with a dial like that which so closely matches current tastes.
It will cost closer to £350 than £300 when duties and DHLs fees are added on and whilst you would probably be able to sell it if you chose to, you will be stuck if it has a knackered balance or something else which will cost strong money to correct using new Omega parts...

Well, according to Omega, the case number on that back belngs to oone of these:

1976, same case shape but gold plated (possibly polished off because of wear?) and a date-only 1010 or 1012 movement. Dial should be silver or champagne, poo brown wasn't an option

Yes, that's a redial.
Search ebay and you'll see the exact same dial bearing three or four different manufacturer's logos.
Movement looks OK, but not great.
Pictures 6 & 7.
Case screw missing at 2 o'clock.
Bridge bearing the numbers is a different colour to the rest of the parts. This tends to indicate a frankenwatch.
A 1022 should look like this:

But the biggest tell tale here is the vendors location. If it's from India, there's a 99.999% probability that it's a frankenwatch.

Thanks everyone. It was one of those impulse moments where you want to buy something that you like. R
Rather than start a new topic. What's the going rate for a planet ocean like this one? I believe Dom H will be the man to speak to with a serious enquiry regarding pre owned watches.

How much have you got? They start at sub 2k for an early 2500 series rising to 3k + for the 8500 series. 2500s on rubber straps without box and papers... you might pick one up for 1400.http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/Omega-Seamaster-Planet...
2500 is the better 'watch', it's slim and has a soilid caseback lilke a good diver should have but it's got an ETA based movement with a new escapement.
8500 is an in-house movement which is a thing of beauty. But it's very very thick, sapphire caseback and is just a bit silly perhaps.
Both available in 42 and 45mm size.

I had a look and you're right the 2500 is more subtle and less in your face. 45MM felt a nice size.
