Have tried, in vain, to find either a garage that will hire their car lift (insurance problems I suppose) or a hire company that rents a decent height ramp so that I can clean off the surface rust and treat my outriggers.

Looks as if I will need to buy a ramp but don't want to spend a fortune on something that will be used maybe once a year.

Found this product on the 'net.

Has anyone here tried these and can give me some feedback, please?

They are in Southend-on-Sea, Essex and I'm near Southampton! Have been searching but nothing like it near me. Don't know why not, you'd think there would be a lot of customers all over the country?

The advantage of the restoration ramps I referred to is that you have clear access to the outriggers (once you take the ramp away). It does mean working on one end at a time although I could jack up and put axle stands under the other end to level the car up. I realise I could simply jack the car and put axle stands under both ends but the side access in my garage is a bit tight so not easy to do this. rolleyes

I bought ramp from CJ autos, the hydraulic ones,

they also do a set that are mechanical (worm drive) that are a bit cheaper.

Not really any good for you down Southampton way but for anybody else reading there is a similar place in Coventry, £15 an hour or £100 a day.

At £100 a day I expect the Hawaiian Tropic bikini team to pass me tools and bring me drinks.

Thanks for the link to cjautos offering. I quite like the look of them but the hydraulic version is too expensive for my intended use (once a year?) It's a shame that these aren't available to hire!

The manual version is about the same price as the 'restoration' ones except it looks like you need the 'lead-0n' ramps as well (£42) to get the Chim above the closed ramp height of 200mm?

Would still like to hear from someone that has used the restoration ramps tho? ears

Hi Peter,

I was also considering the same thing last year and gave up in the end. No DIY garages and ramps were too expensive. When I painted the underside of my car I used very tall axle stands and spent a few hours jacking the car up in stages with pieces of wood, until it was on the highest setting on the axle stand. It wasn't ideal though, especially in my single garage!

I keep considering buying a lift to put in one of my dad's garages over in Ringwood. If we could find something suitable cheap enough, we would consider buying one.

Hi Dan,

How are you doing? wavey

What do you think of the hydraulic ramps that cjauto produce, do you know anyone local to us who has them? Couldn't justify buying them just for myself (circa £500 including postage!!) but if you want to go halves send me a pm? I reckon we could rent them out and get our money back!!!scratchchin

Cheers P

Just found what appears to be the source of the cjautos product here;

http://www.uni-max.co.uk/hydraulic-ramp-platform-9...

Somewhat cheaper even taking into account the shipping and vat @ 21%!!

Anyone had dealings with uni-max?

Change that to cheap concrete blocks, (not Celcon or Thermalite but concrete trench blocks).

I've got a set of the hydraulic ramps from CJ Autos. Excellent kit but I did need to get the lead on ramps to be 100% sure of clearance at the front.

Ynot thanks for the unimax web site,

I've just ordered two sets of the hydraulic ramps from the Czeck site 472 euros (£380) plus delivery which is almost a bogof from CJ Autos. I'll let you all know how I get on and post pics of two sets in action.

Cheers

Hi James, will be interested to read your feedback when they arrive as the picture of the ramps looks identical to the cjauto ones!

This is the forum thread I found them on if anyone wants a read and it shows them in action.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I can see a group buy coming on as the shipping costs will be less per set if, say, we order 10 pairs!!?

Anyone interested?? idea
