I'm considering a bit of a side-step career wise into project management, I'm currently waiting to hear back on an interview I had for a Project Co-ordinator role.

My question to those here that are successful / have been unsuccessful in this type of role is this:

-What kind of personal qualities do you need?
-What kind of career have you made out of it? / Did you manage to get future roles without too much issue?
-Any general advice?

Thanks.

What industry?

Just from a personal qualities point of view, project management in oil & gas is a lot different to project management in IT just from the personalities you'll have to deal with...

Interesting, I hadn't thought of that aspect really, but you raise a valid point.

Currently in Telecoms, possibly IT at a later date so Telecoms/IT

For IT Project management you need to be well organised, diligent and unafraid of confrontation. IME. It's not difficult to stand out if you are good because most of the PM's I have dealt with in 30 years of IT work have been terrible.
