Anyone brave enough to have tried a semi-autobox yet?

I know the purists out there would probably stick to std manual, but I have always had the yearning for paddle-shift without the damn heavy clutch....

Keith, you must be getting old if you're talking about autos ;-)

I switched out my master cyl a few mths back and it's made a big difference to the weight of the clutch, it's much nicer now. I did 300 hard miles around Wales on Saturday without my left leg giving up, it was bliss smile

Har-har!

I swapped out my master cyl before IVA, and yes, it made a difference... but it is still very heavy...and of course, you need longer travel to disengage.
I have a twin turbo box, and the clutch is single-plate, with, I suspect uprated springs..

I do have a remote servo knocking around however, so I might try that!

Having driven a McLaren and several Porsches, I miss the instant and fast changes, and I do know that some on here a few years ago dallied with such alternatiuve mechanisms. I know it's going to the "Dark Side", but with technology changing all the time with more of this stuff around, I wondered.....

Ha Ha, I have chest pains on my right side after changing gear all weekend in Wales with my 6 gear right hand shifter box. It was a work out! Need to go to the gym to toughen up. Now coming down from last weekends adrenalin rush frown

Maybe discuss with someone like AB and see if they could mod / get a 997 box to work?

Great when you are 'on it' but not quite so good in town in traffic eh Jonny!! nono

If Albins could get a PDK to work in a mid engine configuration and crack the software they would be on a winner.

Use the clutch in town/traffic. However noise and cost a big issue.

I think you would generally struggle to hear the box over the engine - the AGB10 trans has been fitted to a few road cars without any issues on the noise front.

I see that the AGP comes as a fully synchromesh box too. Nice option but I fear to see the price... eek

we are talking about the same transmission as here?

If so the tranny is the most intrusive noise on the vid IMO.

No, this is the ST6, I am referring to the AGB.

I would add that this was filmed with one of the new V3 GoPros, which are rubbish at picking up base - as such it picks up the gearbox noise a lot but no engine/wind noise. If you watch our video 'Snetterton Race start...' it is much more representative as it was filmed on the V2 GoPro.

This is very disappointing when reviewing races with the surround sound on!

The AGB10's start at £12k, and rated to 1000Nm+...

Out of curiosity would you guess on how long would such a unit would last before a rebuild if used for road and trackdays only? I presume that the loads would be much less given no slicks etc...

i.e. is it a viable investment?

I would not expect these units to ever require a rebuild - if it did become necessary, there are MUCH fewer parts than the Porsche boxes.

As an example, on our G96-50 we stripped 3rd and 4th gears, and the repair cost was over £3.5k excl VAT. A similar bit of work on the AGB would be around a 1/4 of that.

Interesting comparison. Should something happen needing spare parts, are they available at short notice or do they need to come up from down under?

We generally get parts across in a week with priority delivery - and have managed sooner when the need arises at short notice.
