Thule 591 - Tyre Size

I am just about to order a Thule 591 bike carrier, after multiple positive reviews it appears to be the way to go. However I just wanted to check it would still work ok with a 2.4'' tyre? They were fitted as standard to my bike and while I might go slightly narrower in the future I want to ensure they are ok for now?

Fairly useless advice, but the 532 certainly accomodates 2.4s - although the 532 just has straps and channels for the wheels so they aren't the limiting factor, rather its how big a downtube it can accomodate.

I imagine that the one you're talking about is the same - the wheel fixings aren't there to hold the bike in place, more of a secondary measure so that if the worst happens it just flops off the roof and starts knocking on your window...

Yes, it should be fine.

I've had my old bike fitted to a Thule 591 carrier with 29x2.3 tyres with no problems.

The wheel restraints are a very integral part of the "triangle" needed to keep the bike on the roof, without which the bike will simply rotate forwards around the frame restraint the first time you brake.

I have 4x 591s (and need another [sigh] family cycling is expensive) and although my hardtail is on 2.2 tyres, there's no reason to suggest you couldn't mount a bike with 2.4s. The channel is wide enough and the straps long enough.
