Tax disc.. why display the cost £?

Why is it displayed on the disc? Just reg, make and expiry date is adequate surely?

It confirms that the right duty has been paid for the right vehicle category, not just the right registration number. This was significant before the days of modern computer. i.e. it might be on a lorry, but is it the correct weight category?

You may have noticed that tax discs cease to exist later this year.....

I see it as bling. When people see that I've just had to fork out £500 for this years tax disc, they'll think I'm rich and ladies clothes will fall off.

Will check in the morning but I believe mine simply says "NIL".

Ironically, I'd imagine I still have to fill in the form to apply for a disk each year.

Correct on both counts. And you can only apply for a years tax disc on a band A, B and C car also.
