Stolen to Order ?

Just back from my daughter's home in SW10, London, where her Smart Roadster Coupe has had it's side window smashed, and it's entire roof assembly removed, including all fixtures, and all done with complete precision and zero damage ! Hard to believe that someone would risk a criminal record etc for components from such a relatively low value car ? Now comes the agro of trying to locate second hand components to get the car back in useable condition.

Looks like a thousand to fifteen hundred Pounds to purchase second hand parts to repair, had a very sleepless night thinking about the audacity of these petty criminals. The roof fittings have been removed with perfect precision. Police told my Daughter that upmarket Audi seats are the most prevalent parts being stolen at the moment.

Had my front bumper, side skirts and spoiler stolen off my old Fiesta ST a few years ago (all standard factory parts). Had full CCTV of the thieves going into the car park, and then exiting 10 minutes later with a bumper over their shoulder!
Ford wanted nearly £2000 for new parts. I eventually ended up sourcing 2nd hand parts and it cost about £800. I have no doubt it was stolen to order!
Ended up parking the car at my parents house until I traded it in for a new car. To be honest, if they've done it once, they'll do it again. Best move on to something that is less likely to suffer from the same problem!

Have you looked on internet auction sites to see what they fetch second hand, it may surprise you?

Stolen to order is a fair guess.
If the only damage is a bit of glass and the roof section has been removed carefully then whoever removed it, has a buyer waiting for it.
Costs of replacing it are huge so some people want one from somewhere else.
See the poster about the ST bumpers, easily removed and has happened loads of times.
Same for Disco 2 facelift headlights, easy to remove and fetch good money.
Audi seats, are another, they will fit in loads of other VW cars so the market to shift them is easy.
There are plenty of cars that have bits removed to be resold.
Only a true idiot would hire the exact same car and swap parts over and get caught.
That story is also in the lounge as someone else did it a few years ago.
