"If F1 decided the first one to reach the Moon wins, we'd do it." Paul Seaby, Race Team Manager, Lotus F1® Team.
Remarkably he says it with a straight face.
Wary of the video title "Human Ignition" potentially containing truly horrific scenes of brutal war crimes or shocking self-immolation in protest of corrupt governments, turns out it's just some light-hearted PR from a soft drinks company sponsor of sarcastic twitter presence/F1 team Lotus.
Curious marketing association/ SEO strategy aside, I thought the quoted statement sounds quite an entertaining idea.
How do you think the teams would fair?
Which team arrives at the launch pad with a load of fireworks strapped to an office chair?
Which driver gets shot into space never to be seen again?
Would "enthusiasts" still complain endlessly about how much they hate it whilst eagerly watching every second and following every detail?

Someone will point out that the new hybrid rockets sound s
t and they should bring back the good old Saturn V engines (appropriately named the F-1 engine, funnily enough!)
yup, the Rocketdyne F-1 - the most powerful single chamber liquid-fueled rocket engine ever at 1,522,000 pounds thrust - Saturn V rocket had 5 of these under it.
Just to put this in perspective, the fuel pump for this engine is rated at 55,000 Hp (41Mw).
