Installing a 5 speed box on a mk1 cortina column change

Hello was hoping that someone could help.
Was wondering if someone had knowledge of installing a type 9 or similar gearbox on to a mk1 cortina and still keep the column change. The car currently has a pre cross flow engine in it.
Think I saw something on the internet about it but can't find it anymore so I may have imagined it.
Any ideas?
