Hello all,

I am after some opinions on how best to present a graduate programme on my CV, which I am in the process of updating.

The programme was 2 years long, and involved me spending 3 months in each area of the business to get a full understanding of how the departments fitted together. During this time I was involved in some really interesting and high profile projects that developed my skills & understanding considerably. The departments I worked in were very diverse, ranging from finance to press and public relations.

Would you
a) have a section in the CV headed 'graduate programme', and give a brief account of what it involved and key projects/ skills.
b) have a section for each department I was involved in.
c) select a few which are most relevant to the path I want to take.
d) other

I believe that C is the correct way to go about it, however I don't know what the done thing is or if my belief is the best way to do it.

Input welcome!

Thanks

edc

Some context would be useful. The grad stuff is all largely superfluous if you hve 15 years experience since then.

Put it down as company name, then the programming name if any, then brief synopsis of the program, as the range of jobs could help you stand out, saying that usually a graduate scheme leads to a good role so you may need to answer the why did you leave question.

Thanks for your replies. To give context, I left uni 2 years ago and got straight onto a graduate scheme in the automotive industry.

I'm still on it and move into my 'full time' role in a couple of months.

Like this:

Your CV said:
Name of company (left of page). Dates of employment (right of page).
Graduate rotation scheme (department/department/department)

- Bullet 1: PERSONAL achievement in relevant role
- Bullet 2: PERSONAL achievement in relevant role
- Bullet 3: PERSONAL achievement in relevant role
I'm emphasising 'personal' because no-one cares what project you worked on unless you tell them how YOU SPECIFICALLY contributed to its success (sounds obvious, but very common mistake).

ETA: The name of company and dates of employment should be on a single line, and graduate rotation scheme and departments in parantheses should be another signle line. Ad on the side of the page is pushing these onto two lines.
