Hi
My son has had his car hit (while parked up) by a passing van during the night. The wing mirror has been smashed off. The van driver left a 'I've hit your vehicle' form on the car. (It does raise the question why a van driver would happen to have one of those on-board - and also how many he has!!).
Anyway, my son has contacted the company and they have said they are putting it through their insurance. They have told him to inform his insurance of what's happened. Will it cost my son his excess? Might it affect his NCB and future premiums?
Thanks.

No he won't pay the excess or lose his no claims however he will have to tell the insurance company he has had a non fault accident renewel time and that may increase his premium.

This happened to my brother when a drink driver smashed up his car 3am. If its only a wing mirror maybe and you can't get one cheap may be worth just not bother claiming on his insurance. Try it on comparison sites to see the price difference.

No issue with excess. If he is fully comp and claims on his own policy his excess will be deducted from the final settlement and his insurance company will claim everything back from the van mans insurance company.

As for future premiums it's possible they will increase more than if he hadn't been involved in an accident. He is now statistically twice as likely to have another accident so, even though the accident was not his fault, insurance companies may load future premiums because of the statistical risk.

If the van owning company is making a claim for damage to their vehicle then a record of the incident will be put on CUE and visible to other insurers - so the OP's son risks having insurance invalidated by not reporting the incident

Thanks for info. It looks like he'll have to inform them and see what happens to his premium renewal. Shame - for the sake of a wing mirror.
