Advice on this old Landy?
Discussion
Hello everyone, first post on the LR forum.
I'm looking at this old girl as a potential runabout:

The bulkhead seems to look pretty solid, but if you look at the leading edge of the body at the bottom of the grille, we can see quite a bit of corrosion. How easy is this to remedy, or could it just be ignored and enjoyed? All I'm looking for is a usable Landy to provide a little entertainment, it doesn't have to be concours.
Thanks in advance.

Ignored and enjoyed.
I'd be more concerned with the state of the chassis. Expect work to do for that price.
Get rid of the chequer plated sills. Looks awful. Proper Series steel wheels would lift the looks and the roof rack, if not needed, would improve the appearance if removed as well.
The engine, gearbox and suspension would undoubtedly benefit from a good service, oil and filter change, grease, etc.
Otherwise, it's a nice old Series that needs love and time.

Looks like the front N/S drive flange is weeping oil, hence the oil on the wheel.
Overdrive is a nice addition as are the sliding rear windows.
As above check the chassis and the bulkhead, major rot points on the chassis are;
Rear cross member
Rear spring hangers
Out riggers, especially at fuel tank
Front dumb irons/spring hangers
The bulkhead rots in the footwells, in the corners and in the mounts.
Repair panels are available for all of the above but it depends how handy you are with a welder.
The advert reads, to me, like it needs some work and that's why it didn't sell last time. "Been used on private land" equates to knackered by a farmer, I'd expect chassis rot.

or a complete rebuild.... The engine, gearbox and suspension would undoubtedly benefit from a good service, oil and filter change, grease, etc.

The egines can keep going even when they are in fairly poor condition. The gearboxes, less so.
The syncro is a common failing point. You can check the bix by slowing down on a sloap and lifting your foot off the clutch. If the car pops out of gear, then its a re-build job. Don't believe thr crap written on the net about replacing springs on the gear lever.
I did an oil change on my series the other day. It uses standard mineral oil, which is a s cheap as chips
