Why can't I find a private numberplate with AJC in it?

Most other similar are available, AJJ AJE etc, just not a single AJC, anyone know a reason why?

Either a common combination of initials or issued by a VRO that is in the arse end of nowhere and doesn't issue many registrations.

Interesting! I was looking for plates with MJB in them a few months back, DVLA had nothing , despite me seeing them driving around on older cars.

There's something fishy going on.

If you are looking for prefix ie old style plates there may have not been any made with AJC usually the last two letters were a town that registrations were given. Therefor Jeremy Clarkson was not a town.

There are lots of new style plates and some auction plates there though.

Google DVLA registrations.

Apologies, should have said I'm looking for the old style reg type. E.g. 85 AJC

Would have thought the DVLA could make a bit of a mint now selling things such as 1 AJC, wonder why they don't?

1 AJC was sold ages ago (for about £20k I think), it's my initials too loads available in current style for a couple of hundred quid

ideally i'd like 85 AJC - anyway of finding if it's currently on a car?

Put your question in the "real good numbers" thread, there are people on there with encyclopaedic knowledge of number plates who will be able to give you chapter and verse.
I'm guessing you are actually referring to dateless AJC plates.
Many combinations, my own initials being a case in point were never issued in reverse. Some of the real number plate aficionados have no time for DVLA auction reverse plates (23 AJC) for example.

You are right. The *JC sequence was issued in Caernarvonshire, which is in the outer reaches of North Wales.....

Link tells you all the old regional sequences. Some sequences were specifically reserved for the local county council vehicles etc so may not have been widely used.

Yes, and it's really simple and obvious. Just ring DVLA and ask them! Then, if it hasn't been issued you ask them nicely and they'll put it in a future auction.

Accoding to Rick's site here (http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/jc.htm) there were some non-suffix AJC plates issued from 1950 onwards, if I'm reading it correctly.

In some cases the answer will be "that sequence has been exhausted". i.e. there will never be any available at auction.
