Kit car for big feet - and track use?
Discussion
Does anyone have a recommendation for a kit car (that can be built for me - incompetence!) that will accommodate my girth and size 13 feet, be good on track and not plug ugly. No way will I ever be able to make a Caterham or Westfield fit or work for me, even wide body versions.
I hear the MEV Excocet is good but I could not live with the looks I'm afraid. Or the spin off Rogue Motorsport Xenon that I've seen in 'kit car' races, going well.

Feet wise shouldnt be too bad, I've got size 13's and have been fine my Westfield, Road Runner SR1, SR2 and now in an MEV Atomic
Im afraid all & style cars will feel a bit cramped - Have you thought about the MEV Rocket? much better looking than the Exocet, or if you dont like the exo look there is the Sonic
If your near Surrey your welcome to come have a sit in my MEV to get a feel - its the smallest car they do and still has loads of room, although I have ditched the seat runners and had to put a smaller wheel on as im fairly tall (the Rockets ahve ALOT more room than mine)

The feet thing shouldn't be an issue, but may require driving shoes to widen your choices. I have size 12's and used to wear an old pair of thin soled/bodied trainers. How much girth are we talking about here, as that will be more of a problem to solve, but different seats can give very different results.

Thanks very much for the reply, and the (very kind) offer.Im afraid all & style cars will feel a bit cramped - Have you thought about the MEV Rocket? much better looking than the Exocet, or if you dont like the exo look there is the Sonic

Unfortunately I'm in and out of the country a lot at the moment with work, and unlikely to be near Surrey any time this year, but will look into your suggestions, esp. re the Rocket.
Pleasantly surprised to find that my feet might not be a major issue - looking into footwells at race meets etc. has always led me to believe I'd never cope... unless they could take a pedal out!
Given that KitFest is comming up fairly soon why not pop along to that and then you could not only try a variety of cars out for size but also get a ride in some of them too. That's what I'd do for sure. by the way I'm over 6' with large feet too.
I built my Ginetta G27 modifying the foot-well to accommodate my feet. The Deronda I drive frequently had the cockpit based on Porsche 911 dimensions and I have no troubles with that. I'm currently modifying a couple of Midas which you'd think would be too small but being they are kits you tend to modify them to suit yourself.

Top of my list for a seven style car would be a striker but this is one of the smaller cars but seek one out and try it on for size.
Second to this would be the sylva vectis, no problems with foot well size as it is rear engined, small but one of the sweetest handling out there.
For a more touring biased car i'd go for the mev Replicar, looks like quite a bit of room in the floor well.
Happy hunting.

Now, that's one I have tried. Well, tried to fit in as one of my engine builders ran one. No chance! It was far too narrow for me - wide hips and thick legs to go with the thick head and wide feet, unfortunately.Snake the Sniper said:
Yes, because an Caterham SV would be such a compromise.
OK that's rather tongue in cheek, and whilst it might not be the rapier an R500 is, awful is over egging it a bit.
If you try them back to back (even in 1600cc I series guise) they are markedly different.OK that's rather tongue in cheek, and whilst it might not be the rapier an R500 is, awful is over egging it a bit.
One is excellent, the other is cumbersome and clumsy.
I use Puma Speedcat's in my Fury R1 because I've got big feet. I can't safely drive the car in normal shoes. Find a kit car with a large enough footwell and you can space the pedals pretty much as you like. Plenty of off-the-shelf pedal box options or ways to mount individual pedals with a spacing that works for you.

Just in case you weren't aware, Xenon *is* the racing variant of the Rocket!Xenon:

Rocket:

We originally intended for the Xenon to use transparent panels so that you could see all of the detail but coloured them in to make them more visible to spectators!

Doh! No, looks like I got muddled there. The Rocket in your pics looks better than the car I thought I was referring to (Exocet?) but I like the look of the grey car you posted more still. Could live with that! Looks wise... Don't suppose you drive them on the road too and could say whether it/they are suitable for, or good at, road use. Do you buy the Rockets and Xenon or tale them from MEV and then develop them? Cheers.
There is a good looking Rocket for sale on the MEV forum
