Is it a general thing with everyone or just me?

But I do get times when pages just hang and don't update or open, always seems to be when I'm in a hurry and can't really wait too

Noticed it yesterday and have been investigating.

Today may simply be because I'm running a log analysis on last months files and my analyser software seems to be struggling a bit.

If it's any help Ted. I can sometimes get the page that is hanging to work by opening a new PH and clicking on Forums.

I get it as well - and not just today.

My (uninformed) guess - without knowledge of Ted's architecture - is that there is some kind of load balancing going on that occasionally misses or delays a request. It is as if user requests are queued and then farmed out to the database server(s) to dish out the required information - only occasionally the request gets serviced very slowly (or perhaps missed).

If this happens then I can generally get a fast response by hitting my browser 'Stop' button and then re-issuing the request (by clicking a link or whatever).

It's actually a viscious circle.

If a page is slow to open then someone (including me ) will often hit refresh. That creates another request and the request queue builds up. Then more people do it and it becomes cyclical.

Not sure why it started happening yesterday though. Probably a nasty search on the database or something...

For me, it happens on any thread that looks the most interesting...

You got 5 mins before a meeting starts! A quick Gas is in order - you get to the forums and click, click, click nothing!
Now I'm late for my meeting!

I've noticed tonight that I can type a few words of text....then have to wait for them to appear...before I carry on.
I did a post on another site as a check it wasn't a vrus I might have got...but that was fine - just PH it happenned on.

That's weird. That's your PC chewing processor which can only be done if a script is running. There shouldn't be anything on PH to do that.

I'm not saying it's not PH but I can't think what could be doing it.

Ok, did experience something similar myself just then. Probably an ad delivery script going into a tizz. I'll check it out.
