My 5 month old 981 PDK developed a grinding noise from the transmission end of the car this afternoon, journey home was v heavy London traffic. It'll be my first experience of Porsche after sales, will book it in with Hatfield (who supplied it)first thing tomorrow and hope it can be resolved before Thurs next week when I'm heading on a Euro hoon. What are the chances of getting it seen to Tues/Weds especially as it's a BH weekend? Or will I be taking the R129 instead.

Can't help with the problem but I would have thought the very least you should expect is a loan car.

Yep, wonder how they'll react when I say I'll be doing 3000 miles in a fortnight giving it large in the Alps...

As regards the issue it may be a symptom of hot running in traffic, took me 90 mins to get from Staples Corner to Chiswick.

Looks like I won't find out. Luckily (and embarassingly) it "appears" the noise was a stone caught between the disc and the protective metal plate on one of the rear wheels. And I'd just got used to the idea of cruising down in the Merc.

Pleased to hear it was nothing serious.

Same happened to me in the middle of France in a Lamborghini. Terrible noise and a bit of a worry so far from home. Stopped and reversed and it dislodged itself. Happy Days !!

They seem prone to it, I'm down in the south of France having driven via the alps and had two similar experiences en rroute. They quickly flick out but it can be a bit un nerving the first time you hear it.

Weird. Perhaps someone can come up with a DIY fix. God knows Porsche won't!

Happens to lots of cars. On your hands and knees with a long screwdriver. Takes 30 secs.

I meant to prevent the stone getting there in the first place.

I got a sto e trapped in the Pdcc at the back in my 991 s. Horrible noise and happened 2 days before an ile of man weekend.. Thankfully dealer had had same issue previous week and managed to sort it immediately on a ramp.. Previous car had taken them 2 days :-)
