Hi..got me an 98 MX 1.8 SE bought 18 months ago with only 30K on the clock..it now has 75K I use it everyday and I drive it hard up and down motorways often doing 4-500 miles a day cruises great at 85 but you can not hear the radio too well....and it drinks fuel above 5K revs..anyway it get regular servicing..just of late has developed a slight stutter below 15 rpm if in say 3rd its noticeable...above 1500 is fine..you feel like your in the wrong gear...it still pulls great and no problem starting.. is this in car paranoia or is something creeping in around the 70 K mark I need to know?
Have had cam belt changed ..got new plugs and filter.

Did you change the ignition leads as well ? If not may be worth doing first, old worn ones seem to be a common cause of stuttering and misfiring

No will pick a set up in the morning..I have heard they are tough on leads? it is only on or around 1100 -1500 revs..above that sweet as its always been

Mine did the same. New speak plugs and leads sorted it.

Check the spark plug wells for water before replacing anything. If they are dry then I would suspect coil packs or HT leads which are a known weak point on the Mk2, though obviously it's worth inspecting the plugs first.

New leads storted a miss-fire on ours. Its a common problem for MX5's. The original leads a also a bit thin when you compare there to replacements.

Fixed...new set of leads.... never had a problem so easily fixed
