After putting Poppy on a Dyno she developed some really bad pinking..I had the timing eventually retarded to 3 degrees static as it would still pink between 6-12 degrees static..Then she developed an issue where she would pop while accelerating, Especially under heavy load..Not quite a full mis-fire as such... I started to think maybe the Dyno was a bad move..She didn't do this before.

And then the guessing game started...I have been doing a fair bit of reading..This forum and gurgled formats...As well as a "Specialist" site like Wedgeneering...

I checked the plugs and they were running lean so i adjusted the fuel pressure up by 2 psi to around 2.7 bar on WOT to see if it was a pressure issue in an injector or maybe just needed more fuel....But that resulted in a rich mixture..14%...I think.

The plugs were sooted with near normal nodes..So i backed off the pressure to around 2.5 bar.

I have replaced these with..Rotor arm..(Lucas)..Plugs...NGK bpr7IX..Coil..(Lucas)...Plug leads...(Recommended by a British Classic V8 dealer)...But the issue got slightly worst so the solid state 2.5 bar FPR that it would of had was re-fitted..No change...I had been using different garages for fuel and thought maybe its because i normally use a Tesco express which is 98ron Premium super but have used 95ron premium...V-Power 98-99ron...More so recently..

Then you start thinking..Could this be the sign of cam wear..Sticking valves or an ECU..AFM..TPS...Earth...Fuse/Relay...

Now in the back of my mind i still had a niggling little doubt as when i replaced the service parts there was one thing i didn't...The "King lead"..This was due to the fact that the Wedge has the coil on the wing and i think Range rovers and SD1 had them mounted on the plenum?...

So i went out a couple of days ago to buy a longer king lead..But most people had sets and wouldn't split so i went to an old school type motor spares that i know of and they had one that i could have..Fitted it and "BIsh Bosh Bash"..Poping while accelerating...GONE...I then put some octane booster in and a healthy splash of fuel..98ron and the pinking has stopped..."What a joy to drive again"...Now do any of you buy a specific type of plug lead set with a longer fitting king lead or ask for one when ordering?... Or have you not changed yours because every time you buy a set the king lead is not long enough?...Just wondering....Cheers...Ziga

Last time I just bought a few feet of HT cable and some crimp-on end fittings from VWP and made my own...

Excellent outcome Zig!
to answer your question though, When I bought new leads the king lead was indeed too short, I told the supplier and they just sent me a longer one free of charge. Good result!

I've tried a couple of types over the years: Magnecor (never again) and now run Moroso leads which I bought from Real Steel as a DIY kit so you make the lead length (including the king lead) to suit yourself. Not had any problem with them, but you do need to buy or borrow the proper crimping tool for the connections. Glad you got it sorted anyway Mark.

I buy individual leads, so they are all ok.
Generic silicone with the maximum core I can find, don't need anything fancy on an old non-tuned standard RV8.
On my first set of replaced leads since owning the wedge and in the next 6 months they will be replaced with new generic ones.

Another vote for Moroso. I also have the leads spaced and secured as best possible using the appropriate clips as I am led to believe you can get interference between leads.

Last time I got a set I took the ends off the too-short king lead and used them on a longer lead, which worked well.
