Hi all

Have come back to the M fold having traded my previous e39 M5 for a biturbo Merc Cl600

Now just traded that for a e60 M5 which i pick up today

Its a 55 plate Interlagos blue with beige leather. Two owners last for 6 years who spent a fortune

Car is at 67k miles and has had 2 clutch/flywheels - 34k and 56k miles

But get this.......

Owner paid BMW main dealer 22k 4 months ago for a brand new engine!!

He then traded it last week for a new 6 series

So i am getting a new car effectively!!

Cant wait for this afternoon!

Congrats but that must be a warranty invoice surely.

If not be would have saved 10k by buying a new one and breaking the old one for parts.

Have fun!

2 clutches/flywheels and a new engine

Sounds like the car has been hammered.

Hope you went over everything with a fine tooth comb.

Hi, i saw that advertised for sale.

Post back how you get on with it. I changed from an E39 M5 to E60 M5 October last year and i'm loving the E60 so far, the noise is heaven. Mine has been spot on so far.

Get some pic's up if you can.

Cheers
Simon.

New clutch / flywheel on these are not necessarily signs of abuse.

Thanks to one of BMW's little engineering flaw surprises those changes might just have been down to a poorly prepped bearing rather than regular burnout launches:

If the previous owner did indeed pay for the engine, then make sure the remainder of the warranty on the engine is transferrable.

If the previous owner got the engine under an extended warranty, then you may find you do not have any extra warranty on the engine at all.

But how do you stop an owner falsely claiming that it was all due to badly prepped bearings and hiding his abuse?

You can't, but for someone to have gone through 2 clutch & flywheel swaps would mean they'd have been really committed to caning it and I would've thought there would be other signs to show that.

Like having an engine swap for example...

I guess its a moot point as to whether a car with a new engine is a good or bad thing

On the one hand a new engine is awesome, but its whether the fact that it needed a new engine is an indicator of abuse or neglect

Either way, best of luck with the m5

Its one car that I owned and sold a month later....hated the gearbox and just found the power was too high up the powerband to allow it to be enjoyed at sensible speeds

Me Too hated the gearbox and rev range, after one week of test driving I walked. F10 in a different league.
