Yokohama AD08R? (experience, differences with AD08R vs AD08)

Hi all,
I've heard lots of good things about the AD08, magazine tests, masses of owner reviews etc. And have been planning to put them on my MK3 MR2 for a while. However they seem to have been replaced by the R model, which is meant to be grippier, but I was wondering if any one had any experience with them over the standard 08s? Such things as steering feel and wet weather changes were my main concerns. I can still get the non R models, but the mr2s tiny wheels are making it a pain!

Yes, better than AD08 on the MR2. PS, they are the same size as the Elise so easy to find in 15/16.

I'll watch this with interest. I have a Mk3 MR2 as well and while I don't need tyres yet, I want to try something a bit stickier. The plan will be to only bring the MR2 out on dry days in the not-too-distant future.

It seemed that a lot of the online sites were starting at 205, rather than the 185 I needed, but I know the size start nice and small for people with proper little sports cars!

Oddly on a Yokohama direct type site, they have the standard 185 size in the 08, but the 205 size for the rears they only had the 08R.

Camskill have the 08R's in the 185/55 size (been wondering what they're like for the my 200 Coupe to be honest, same size albeit all round) they also do the 205/50's as well.

Just fitted a set (AD08R's) to my 306 track car. Not at the level of a semi slick such as R888 but probably the best of its kind you can get, even perform well in the wet.

Pretty tough sidewall, and good feedback. A lot of the saloon car racing series use them, a guy I know of uses them on his very high powered Audi TT for a season which would suggest they wear well.

Good value for money too

I run AD08's on my slightly powerful TVR - love them, so I would be very interested to see what people think about these new ones.

Thanks for all the posts, I just wasn't sure if the new Rs were an improvement feel wise, as they will be mainly used for 'fast road use'.

Wear rating of 140 vs the 180 of the non-R AD08. Not sure if it makes any difference TBH.

Thanks, completely forgot about camskill, 373 with the shipping for the full set on there, which is cheaper than the Yoko specialist I found.

So thanks for saving me 6 quid!

I'll keep shopping around, but that seems a rather good price.

I forgot to say, the AD08/R are meant to have pretty good grip in the wet, as well as the dry, they are rated 'b' for wet grip, I know that is a little meaningless but they aren't meant to be bad in the wet from the reviews I've read by owners online.

If it was just for sunny days maybe get a proper semi slick like the yokohama A048, or toyo r888. I'm not sure how they'd fare if you got caught out in heavy rain though, what with the mr2 being so light, so if you were worried about that perhaps the ad08s would be best.

Over a year of running AD08's in all weathers, including single digit temps + rain coming back from the NEC, and I haven't had a nightmare thus far. I'm impressed with them.
