Speeding Advice!

Think I've been caught by one of those bloody Talivans.
I was overtaking a HGV on the Bristol Ring Road (dual carriageway) - maximum speed achieved thought to be 65-70mph and the limit was 50mph.
I sped up to get past the HGV safely and then took my foot of the gas and coasted down to the 50mph limit from 65-70mph at which point a saw the Talivan...he would have had a good view of the whole manouevre...
What can I expect in terms of a fine/points and does anyone know of a website where up-to-date information on how points and fines are awarded with regard to speeding speeding?
My licence is currently clean, conditions were excellent (bright, sunny,clear and dry despite the cold and there was very little traffic).

If you were doing under 76 in the 50 and if you were checked then expect, if you are the Reg Keeper of the vehicle, in the next 15 days papers in the post.
No papers then consider yourself lucky.
If they are operating to ACPO Guidlines then there will be a Conditional offer of 60 notes and 3 points.
Over 76 then expect an appearance before the Magistrates for a greater fine and possible short ban.

Was caught a couple of years ago by one of those Avon and Somerset Talivans in a 50. I too was overtaking and was clocked at 73mph. £60 and 3 points 
Some say I was lucky as it was 23 over the limit but I don't consider getting caught lucky!
Edit to say I got the letter 4 days after the event which was pretty efficient of them. Bastards.

One thing I forgot to ask is how long do I have to wait before I get something through the door?
As an aside - quite what catching me doing what I was doing will achieve I do not know? One thing is for sure, who ever benefits from the fine will be 60 notes better off and the roads will be no safer for it...
...I don't mean to seem like I'm winging but I would do the same manouevre again and again - dangerous it was not. Maybe I should have crawled past the HGV with a speed differential of 0.1mph and risked being forced into the central reservation by a wandering 40 tonner...major RTA, closed road, possible death, massive traffic delays, the list goes on. And once (if) safely past stamped on mt brakes to shed the 0.1mph I was exceeding the limit by...
I had no intention of speeding in this instance, merely overtaking safely - hence the fact that I began to slow down afterwards (well before I saw our friendly Talivan by the way...)
But then I was speeding after all...
ho hum - another criminal joining the ranks...
One thing I forgot to ask is how long do I have to wait before I get something through the door?

I suspect that many of us get caught simply overtaking and not looking to speed, but sadly that has no bearing on the outcome.
You get the chance to accept the points and fine or risk going to court, to have your say, and risk a much stiffer penalty - so on balance most of us take the lesser risk.
Guilty unless you can prove the opposite and going to Court believing that you're right may well backfire on you anyway.
Happy Christmas - mine was 18 December and NIP arrived Christmas Eve, so I stuck it with the other cards!

Andy, why do you think this will make you a safer driver?
What is it you think will change; before you answer bear in mind you have simply given them sixty quid and they have placed some ink marks on your driving licence, so what is it in this process that will make you safer driver?
