Clutch problem
Discussion
I normally hang about on the Porsche board, but I am sure there is someone here who can help with a problem I have with my son's Merc Vito and its hydraulic clutch. It's a 2002 model right hand drive. I understand it has some sort of concentric m/c for both brake and clutch and it is on the passenger side of the car.
At times the clutch pedal is "floppy" and is capable of going to the floor without help. I have pressure bled the clutch system by applying pressure to the M/c reservoir and bleeding out from the bleed nipple just inside the clutch bell housing (the slave cylinder is within the bell housing). When I did this and pressed the clutch pedal it went to the floor, with only slight assistance. I then actuated the pedal several times and it started to work normally. It has worked normally for about 500 miles, but now it has once again started to show changed characteristics. They are not consistent. Sometimes the clutch is OK and at other times it's "floppy" and seems to not disengage completely.
I would have thought that if this is caused by failed seals I would either have a leak of fluid or the problem would be constant. However, neither is happening. It is just variable.
Is there some special way of bleeding these clutches? Any pointers as to what the problem might be?
Regards and thanks for reading

Sounds like you might have a faulty slave or master cylinder, but it might work by "back bleeding".
This is pumping fluid in from the slave cylinder at the clutch end and bleeding it out at the master cylinder.
You need a bottle like the old fashioned oil cans with a pump on and a length of rubber/plastic tubing like screenwash pipe.

I think this might work though, but on a bottle of brake fluid?

Put the tube on the clutch slave cylinder and pump the fluid back through the pipework bleeding at the m/c
