Need new ignition switch - what's it off?
Discussion
So the voltage problem I was having stems from the ignition switch messing around - the actually switch part is lose on the back and you can almost control the starter motor moving it around.
Also I seem to have a rogue unconnected purple and white wire which is part of the igniton siwtch wire collection. It's just hanging around - anyone know what the hell it is and where it should go?!

Hi mate...I might have a ignition switch somewhere, Can you show me what wires are on it...I think there is 4...Someone else was asking as regards to the purple and white wire and i do remember in Delilah i found the same one, Although it had a spade fitting on it and it was sitting right above a spare fitting on the switch gear..After connecting it i flashed the headlights and there was a tiny puff of smoke that can out of the cowl...
..However the light on the dash lit up whereas it never before...Not sure on the V8 but it looks the same....Don't connect it up though until you are 100%...Im a chancer....Ziga

I've now tested it with a multimeter and the switch seems to be making and breaking OK but the starter fires intermittently, sometimes continuously - so suspect either the lead to solenoid or the solenoid itself...
In brighter news the engine is sounding sweet as apart from a blow at the olive joints on the downpipe which seems to sort itself out when warmed up. Nearly there!

That was my initial thought although I didn't change it because I had the weird battery voltage thing and the suggestion was I might have wiring issue. There was a patch of melted sheathing on the solenoid trigger wire which I thought may have caused intermittent triggering of starter but that didn't cure it. I charged the battery and still got duff voltage on dashboard gauge and nothing working so investigated the ignition switch and found the main brown wire was coming off through stress breakage so cut back and resoldered. Also retightened the switch which sorted my voltage but didn't cure the intermittent starter.
So...the starter hasn't been changed (yet) and like most things on my car there was another problem waiting in the wings to confuse issues! Back to thinking the solenoid is indeed shagged although to confirm 100% I should really check consistency of voltage feed at starter end of trigger wire with ignition in crank position.
Still don't know what that purple and white wire is!
