how wide should I go?
Discussion
Hi Mick.
Finding the right wheels with the correct calliper spacing, clearance from the trailing arm and keeping it all within the rear arch, doable, maybe you could try Image Wheels and have them made, they have stock pattern to chose from and may just have the wheel for you.

Out of interest, what is the standard tyre width for an S?
TVR on the whole got the wheel and tyre sizes, especially the widths, correct for best handling.
Wider isn't always better, unless your only interest is in how it looks, at the expense of how it drives.
And if you use bigger spacers than 10mm have a think about using hub-centric spacers. Also anything thicker than about 6mm might need longer studs.

225/45 on 17x8 wheels on my v8 (et30 on the rear, et27 on the front, I reckon you're looking at et10 ish on the rears with v6 trailing arms though the hubs might be further out with drums?, not sure on the front) they're about right at the rear and absolutely precisely just under the bodywork at the front, any wider would stick out or rub on the inside.
Anything here help?
A lot of thin (5mm) spacers are generic fit anything
These are made to fit the Ford/TVR 108mm PCD but despite what they say they won't be "hubcentric" when that thin.
