MOT collection and delivery

There's a company advertising on google MOTs for 24, including collection and delivery of your car from your home. It seems very scammy to me but does anyone know if this is legitimage.

It depends on the company. Plenty of similar legitimate offers on Google.

I don't know how much an MOT costs to the testing station but how can they be making money

doing them for 24 including collection and delivery ?

Using my postcode which is atleast 8 miles from the nearest MOT centre doesn't change the price from 24.

Still I don't think I'll be handing over the keys to a total stranger anytime soon.

Needed to top up your washer fluid to test - £8.

Inner CV boot worn and allowing ingress if dirt - £65.

The list of spurious yet relatively low cost items which would be likely be agreed could be endless.

So how do you think they make money from this offer ?
The trade price for an mot is 40/45.
They have to pay for someone to collect and return your car.

DVSA charge the testing station a couple of quid per test, after that your into standard overheads, wages, heating, equipment etc. I suspect if every vehicle they test passes they won't make a living from 24 each.

I'd have thought the business model is fairly straightforward.

As a garage you offer a seemingly too good to be true, but genuine offer to collect, MOT Test, and return a car for approx half the price of what garages charge just for the Test. This is attractive to busy people.

Car fails test and requires work. The same busy people 99 times out 100 agree to have the work carried out as it's easier.

Quiet garage is turned into a very busy garage. WIN.

Lack of hassle for busy customer. WIN

I think you mean "loss leader".

I don't think it is a loss leader based on the exact definition - but it's certainly similar in principle.

My bad, that too.

We don't do tests that cheap as you then end up with the biggest heaps in for mot and they take for ever to do and plus the general customer base is then at the lower scale.

A fair price for a fair mot is my way and it seems to work, bulbs and adjustments we do foc, other garages with a cheaper test charge for these bits and that way they get out what they need.
