How much air under your arches? Lowering...
Discussion
I keep looking at other wedges and there's an awfull lot that sit lower than mine and look all the better for it. For example Maston's 390 sits really nicely in my eyes - noticably lower than mine.
I have adjustable ride height at the rear but obviously bit stuck at the front without either clamping or cutting or replacing the springs.
Just wondering how much gap people have between tyre and arch in general?

I used to have a Wedge that was lowered and looked awesome, but going over humps all over London was a nightmare. Mine was lowered to virtually zero gap but normally I think there should be a few inches between wheel and arch. I think anything over four inches would then be considered as a monster truck. Actually, that's not a bad idea. I wonder what a Wedge would look like as a monster truck. Someone do a photoshop image and lets see if it's appealing.

Tony it has been done:

I have been raising my body, not lowering it. When I changed to 16" 9J rims at the back these filled out the wheel arches better but there was rubbing on the passenger side, so I had to increase the gap.
Also beware that if you want a comfortable ride that means some suspension travel at the rear. If you lower the body you'll have to up the spring rate which will make it crash over the bumps and ground out - even on the Fosse way to/from BBWF I have to slow down to get over the undulations without too much "bumping and grinding".

I'm 700mm at the back and 800 at the front. Grounds on every speed bump and on most "c" class roads.

That's interesting. Always thought mine ran low - 630 mm rear 620 mm front ( from floor to highest part if arch) I've got adjustable bits on the back so could crank them up a bit. Not sure why I'm so low at the front. It's how I bought it but must admit the exhaust has taken a real battering on the local speed humps - don't have much trouble driving on undulating roads though. marcus
Where does it bottom out? Mine used to on the exhaust but the new box i have is a little higher and seems to be a lot better...only takes a little to make a big difference.
I also haven't got the front splitter on yet as it is being repaired (body shop forgot!) But again I used to catch this quite a bit when going down lanes. Tempting not to fit it again but I think its needed

I've had trouble with the NSR tyre rubbing and on checking I've found that the NSR wing is deeper from body line to top of the w/arch, which seems to be the same on the 400se's, so doing track days with a passenger on 17" rims with a 245 tyre generates to much heat and makes the car unstable after about three laps, I shall now fit a smaller width tyre and see how it goes from there.
Hmm that high riding wedge looks kinda familiar !
Too low on STD suspension in my experience creates terrible ride as you ain't far off the bump stops and it's a white knuckle ride down the fosse making the car crash over bumps rather than ride them. I'm going for coil overs as part of the chassis refurbishment so you can set things pretty much as you wish.

Hi guys sorry for the previous reply ! Anyway back on track I have new suspension supplied by RT Racing, dose anyone else have these fitted ? If so what do you have the shocks set at ? Mines on the softest setting at the moment and although the ride is comfortable it's a little too soft ! I have some time off work in a couple of days so will have a play as I'm going to try my 16x9's at the same time !

My 400SE had protech shocks and RT's own springs fitted prior to me taking ownership and to be honest I found that the rear spring rate was too low so you had have a high ride height (pre-loading the spring) so there was quite a lot of daylight in the arches but not quite as much as there is in the pic Adam posted...Part of the chassis refurb will see the TVR spring platforms hitting the garage floor and some new mounts for coil overs being welded in their place....
Ok I spoke to GAZ & to RT today and they both came back with a figure of about 14/18 clicks from zero for the back and 18/20 clicks for the front, so at least I have a starting point from which to work from now ! GAZ were very helpful considering I only phone to have a chat, plus as luck would have it the guy I spoke to was the head of TVR development for GAZ Shocks.... So anyway I will try these setting and see where we go from there !
