I am planning to upgrade my front brakes by fitting larger discs but retaining the existing callipers. Tower View Race Services used to supply a kit, is there others?

I have original 15" wheels and wheels to retain these.

The Cosworth 887/888 calipers are sliding calipers as per original. I think these will be the biggest you can get to fit under the 15" wheels. Discs are 283mm. If you can find any that is.

I have this fitted to mine and it is absolutely fantastic. I have found the standard setup lacking during continual use. I now have that Alcon setup from David Gerald on mine and am very impressed. A major selling point for me is the fact they fit under the standard 15" wheels so I can keep the standard look of the car.

For road use I found a decent set of pads (Ferrodo DS2500s), braided hoses and dot 5.1 fluid is a good upgrade and more than adequate for road use imo.

Also look at Hi-Spec Brakes, they produce super sets to order for the Griff and they do them to fit inside the 15" wheels (if you have them), or bigger for the 16", plus you can choose your calliper colour. I have had a long talk with them recently and am confident they will provide a great set of brake upgrades, also their prices are very competitive. Look at this link :-

That is my next job on the Griff whilst it is off the road next winter. Regards, Pete

Will wood Superlite 4 pots and slotted discs under the orig alloys fitted to mine by Steve Heath probably pre 2005. I went to see Rally Design in Kent ( Willwood Agents ) a while back and apparently they have changed the calliper design to a smaller lighter one, which uses a adapter to fit the Griff hub.

The guy there was very helpfull, well worth contacting them

Interesting... As due to budgets was considering just doing the disc upgrade and the calliper later when more monies available due to a new ECU upgrade booked in for July.

Keri at WMS brakes is worth a try, very nice easy to fit kit with billet 4-pot calipers, 283mm discs, all brackets and S/S hoses. All Fits under 15" Estorils, pricewise they're about midway between the Cosworth 887/88 and DG solutions.

Have sent enquiries out.

For the rears, as I am probably going to go with 285 size on the front and keep the back the same size, what are a good disc for the rear for road use and spirited driving?

I have just gone from an upgrade similar to the factory upgrade, 300mm discs, AP 4-pot calipers and front 16-inch rims...

...To these 322mm discs, AP 6-pot calipers and 16-inch rims

The 300mm discs and 4-pot set-up is great and works for Road and Track days alike. I have never experienced brake fade over the nine years they've been fitted.

The 322mm discs and AP 6-pot have a more progressive feel on initial brake application when compared to the previous 4-pot set-up. This is with the same pad material, those the 6-pots caliper use a larger brake pad.

For a Road car and a little track use, the David Gerald Alcon 4-pot kit looks like a great set-up from my experience.
