I know you've deleted your post but id suggest buying a Wii U if you want to play with your kids. The new super mario games are brilliant multiplayer, theres also Mario Kart out on friday!

My 5 year old is just starting to enjoy games a bit, and strangely it is the stuff that reminds me of the gqames I played when younger.

Games he is really enjoying at the moment are Mario, Boy and his Blob, Zelda (but we have to play that together as he struggles to read some of it), and just about to start Brothers: Tale of Two Sons.

I dug out my old N64 as well, and he loves Mario on that, more so than the newer ones.
And Parappa The Rapper on the psx but struggles with it.

I'd be trying games you can work cooperatively with whether split screen or joining two devices together.

Perhaps not Battlefield 4 if he's 5. wink

My 5 year olds love Mario Kart on the Wii.

I also get them Karting in Gran Turismo 6 using a steering wheel and pedals.

We have played wii games and the Lego games which are great for kids. I am amazed at how quickly they pick up the controls!

My original post was asking what split screen coop games people play with their kids. I deleted it because of the mention of Halo. smile

Quite liked the wii skiing game. Just skiing around in a gang and deciding which map to go to then racing to the bottom was a laff.

Out of interest, why delete your post?

If it's because you're ashamed of playing Halo with your son, why do you do it?

Nothing wrong with Halo, they're good games. I come from an era where we weren't quite some namby pamby about what kids were exposed to, but I suppose this was an era before American ultra-conservative media started trying to link real life murders to people shooting 3D aliens on a giant metal ring , floating in space in a distant galaxy.

Also OP, if you fear a lynching, don't mention listening to Marilyn Manson with your son.

But the graphics are a bit different to when I was growing up....

Also, of course someone who is exposed to violence will have a different mentality to violence than someone who is not.
Not saying they will be some nutter when they get older, but my sons friends who watch certain things and play certain games are definitely play a lot rougher than he does, they are always playing at fighting, guns, hitting etc. That is just human nature.

The graphics are a bit different to when I was a boy too, but the intent is the same.

That said, I was also free to watch any of my parents video collection whenever I wanted, so I grew up on 80s and 90s horror and action films. My favourite film was and probably still is Aliens, which I first saw aged 4. As I say, this was before all the media hand-wringing washed onto parents and left them desperate to make sue that little Tarquin has no concept of violence.

Not sure I'd recommend Brothers so much for a 5 year old, quite a few adult themes in there about death and loss, along with some mild scares. Fine if you understand that going in, but if not it just looks a bit like a simple co-op puzzler.

Cheers for the heads up.
Maybe we will just put some time into Mario Kart 8. wink

Release on Friday and I have the day off with him, so think we will go and pick it up together.

Not really gone into town for a game release for years, I remember how much I loved that as a kid.
