91 Range Rover Classic
Discussion
Hi,
Here's a couple of shots of my 91 Range Rover Vogue SE. Bought a year ago and used every weekend for general burbling about and often towing a horsebox.
It's a great old thing, not in bad condition and looks great, especially from a couple of yards away! People seem to like it and I always get lots of comments.
106,000 miles and mechanically really good. There aren't that many left in original condition (mine only has some slightly larger tyres) and I intend keeping it that way.
Good news is that values are increasing....and it's a V8!
Not for everyone but I think these are timeless.

Ok, a little more info. Plymouth Blue with grey leather interior. Everything works, including the electric seats and sunroof. Cleans up really welll. Owned by the same company for years and has covered about 1000 miles between MOT's for the last 10 years. Structurally its pretty sound. Sills good, inner wings patched but solid, rear seat belt mounts solid but not pretty. Has been painted in the past but to a good standard and still polishes up well.
Tailgates have been replaced although being picky the Vogue SE lettering is in the wrong place!
I've replaced the viscous coupling, had some welding done and changed fluids, plugs, leads etc. Also changed the heater fan resistor to regain all three fan speeds and changed the speakers as the original paper speakers had literally disintegrated. Better sound was to be heard on a binatone hifi!
Some 235/70 BFG All Terrains mean I wom't get stuck unless its very muddy.
Jobs needing doing currently are the headlining (of course) and the exhaust is blowing. Parts are very cheap and sitting in my garage waiting to be fitted. It also runs a little warm when towing up a hill. Never overheats but suspect it might need a flush.
Suspect doing about 13-14mpg but to be honest I really don't care as it's a weekend toy and only stays locally (I have put a 15 mile radius limit on towing, then the diesel comes out!)
Couple more snaps, I love the one with my mate's Discovery - the perfect setting!

It's very tempting- bit scared by the fact I wouldn't have a clue what to look for!
Rust is the biggest issue, which can be almost anywhere under neath. Sills, inner wings and rear seat belt mounting points are common weak spots, as are both the tailgates. Floors can and do go but the good news is that everything is very cheap, you just need a friendly welder! Engines and gearboxes are pretty strong, but beware the viscous coupling as this is a £400 fix if it goes (generally about 100k miles)Otherwise it's cosmetics, electricals, suspension bushes etc. Many have inop electric mirrors, seats and cruise control but mine are ok.
Personally I'd go Vogue SE so you get leather and some shiny wood trim. I didn't want LPG but that's personal choice I guess depending on how much you might use one.
There are some crazy prices being asked on Ebay etc but still some decent ones to be had at sensible money. I reckon mine is worth more than it owes me now but no plans to sell it. The kids have learned to drive it (private land of course) and reckon they want it as their first car. I've suggested a written agreement to share the petrol money!
Go on, what could go wrong?
That looks lovely.
I've had two, both soft dash. First was 300Tdi with manual box and cloth but fabulous history. Second was 3.9 auto with leather. Lovely wafty way to travel but it liked a drink, especially when towing! It cost about £100 to fill which then lasted around 200 miles (not towing).
I'd love another one...
