New E63 M6 coupe owner
Discussion
Having recently sold my Imola red S54 Z3M coupe, I wanted a car with rear seats for my young family, and a little fun for me at weekends. I toyed with Astons, Maseratis & Mercs, however, finally decided on the M6, and have to say, I am very very happy with my choice. It's Interlagos blue, with silverstone full merino leather, 08 car, with 12,600 miles, full BMW service history.
Given what I had read on here regarding how these cars need to be driven, I was at first a little concerned with the extremely low mileage. But, having bought from a main dealer (not necessarily a positive) with a 2yr AUC warranty, I'm hoping any issues will be covered.
Never driven a SMG gearbox previously, I was a little apprehensive at first. Was not long before I got a good feel of the box and the 530 mile trip from Aberdeen to London on collection day, was a great opportunity to really get to know the car....and what a car it is! Fuel consumption was 20.4mpg for the journey, which I was impressed with, admittedly I was taking it fairly easy. It really does feel like/look like/smell like a brand new car and I really cannot believe its condition for a 6yr old car.
I know the looks are not everyone's cup of tea hence why you do not see too many around, but it certainly works for me. Regardless, that V10 really is something else...

Hi,
Congrats on the purchase!
Every first Monday of the month is 'German Night' at the Ace Cafe in NW London, just off the Hanger Lane gyratory and a stone's throw from IKEA and Brent Cross shopping centre.
Every second Monday of the month is Petrolhead Nirvana in association with Pistonheads meet at the same venue.
Other meets are arranged impromptu via the vaious BMW forums and those in and around London, so keep a lookout for some of those.
Cheers, Dennis!

at that mileage with full history you should be home and dry for the 2 years, good luck.

I know it's a V10 but is it really that bad on a long jaunt? I did a round trip to Newcastle recently in my e39 and managed 25mpg comfortably while not taking it particularly easy.Given what I had read on here regarding how these cars need to be driven, I was at first a little concerned with the extremely low mileage. My M6 averaged 25.9 mpg through boring Belgium on the way back from the ring.Overall trip was 20.1 though.
Thanks all. I am taking the car to North Wales this weekend so will hopefully have some pics to post up.
Given the miles I will be doing, the mpg is not so much of a factor for me. There is a price to pay for supercar-like performance.

They are only horrific on fuel around town.
Mine has just done 150 miles on £50 mixed motorway and town. If it was all motorway, it would have nudged 180-200miles from that.
For a rev happy V10 coupe that weighs 1800kgs that is not bad.

I feel your pain, I'm lucky to get that out of my vogue on a super good day. £60 usually gets me 140 miles mixed.Mine has just done 150 miles on £50 mixed motorway and town. If it was all motorway, it would have nudged 180-200miles from that.

I got 2 sets of keys with the car, and another fob that doesn't seem to do anything. What's this for? It looks like there should be a key or something that slots in there....valet key maybe? (I don't have the manual with me).
Emergency [plastic] key from what I recall. The sales guy explained it to but I was too excited to pay attention.sjb1 said:

On the subject of keys, it would be worthwhile seeing if the neccessary security updates have been applied, especially as yours was specced with comfort access. One of the finest examples I have seen for sale recently, but I found their pricing too optimistic at £30K for a 57 plate.clabcon said:

Good point, have just called the dealership and the update was applied last year.Yes, the price was a tad high, they actually increased it to £31,990....they saw me coming! I could not find a comparable car for less though...
Btw what is TMK??
