Big thanks to Paul for sending me the speedo sensor that arrived this morning safe and sound. Top service mate Cheers!

Once I get the Escort off the lift I will stick it on the Cerb and see how it goes.

Cheers
Dave...

My advice to Dave was

"Start with a large gap just over 1mm, and with the wheels off run the engine through the gears to confirm that the sensor is working, if not gradually close the gap."

However, he is rather unsure about running the engine in gear even with the wheels off. Can anyone help reassure him that this is perfectly safe?

As long as the car is stable on stands and whilst running through the gears is fine is personally not use any revs other than idle.

As above - just make very sure that it is stable on stands and that both back wheels are off. Perfectly safe at idle revs.

Paul is a TOP bloke...he puts up with my enthusiastic, (numpty!) knowledge and mistakes in reading simple instruction admirably and I owe him (and Tanguero AND M3John!) a HUGE thank you for all the help (by both spanner and intellect) to help refurb my Cerb over the last 2 years.

Cheers again. I suppose I could run the car up on my lift then lower it down onto stands to make it secure. Just wary of running the car while up in the air. I will give it a go!

I have done it loads too. Just go easy on the throttle no sudden movements that may cause the car to rock in any way.

The real hero here is Steve: he's taken a Cerb best described as 'tired' and invested an incredible amount of time and resources to return the car to a condition that is probably far better than when it left the factory. I am in awe of his patience and perseverance.

I am far more of a 'keep it going' merchant (not least thanks to Steve), but I know full well that one day my car (which cost the same as Steve's and was bought at the same time) will grind to a halt. But until then I am going to enjoy it to the full.

Last Monday at Anglesey - what a great weekend!
