My advice to Dave was
"Start with a large gap just over 1mm, and with the wheels off run the engine through the gears to confirm that the sensor is working, if not gradually close the gap."
However, he is rather unsure about running the engine in gear even with the wheels off. Can anyone help reassure him that this is perfectly safe?

The real hero here is Steve: he's taken a Cerb best described as 'tired' and invested an incredible amount of time and resources to return the car to a condition that is probably far better than when it left the factory. I am in awe of his patience and perseverance.
I am far more of a 'keep it going' merchant (not least thanks to Steve), but I know full well that one day my car (which cost the same as Steve's and was bought at the same time) will grind to a halt. But until then I am going to enjoy it to the full.
Last Monday at Anglesey - what a great weekend!
