190k miles

Think I might have found my snotter well I id until I've asked and it has 190k on the clock

its a 2001 Saab 9-5 hot aero, looks in good nick

would the mileage put you off?

Nope, not as long as it's been properly looked after.

At that age/mileage it's all about how it drives.

Current snotter is a 1999 Audi A6 Avant with 198k on the clock - needs it's fair share of maintenance but then I don't think a 100k mile example would be any better (and, in fact, with the bills it gave it's previous owner at 130k, it could even be worse)

Buy on condition, not mileage. It will (should) be cheap with that mileage - put the money saved aside for any repairs.

yeah buy on condition ...might be a cherished fsh gem , or a dog thats already been ran into the gound and abused

If there is evidence of maintenance and a half about reason for the high miles I'd have no issue at all, the two cars I use most often at the moment have 198k & 199K on them.

Buy on condition but remember that if something does go wrong it is unlikely to be economical to repair it.

Ill be using it for 3 months maximum tip my new car gets delivered, I was going to use my classic but a nice big electrical failure this weekend has put paid to that :-)

I really don't want to be spending anything on it in 3 months.

car is 990 but Id obviously be offering less.

I just struggle to do dull, well maybe not as I like Saabs and they aren't exactly exciting :-)

Ive found another thats closer 50K less miles and a smaller 2litre engine, I may go look at that instead as it has FSH and only 1 pevious owner.

I just fancy a big estate car, it could come in handy for those 3 months

I don't have much faith in the high mileage is fine brigade. I'm sure there are some real bargains to be had, but I don't think most of us can reliably discern between a tough old war horse with tens of thousands of miles left in it and a complete money pit. There are tell-tale signs of both, but you're never going to know for sure.

Old trainers are the comfiest shoes and you keep them for as long as you can. But you wouldn't buy someone elses old trainers. You don't know where they've been.

If you're a confident mechanic, or don't mind shelling out to keep it going, by all means go for it.

I had one with well over 200k on it - it was actually SOTW! It was looked as good as one with 100k, but was in need of a turbo by that point.

It wasn't 900 though!

I Am neither but I am prepared to buy it and scrap it if I need to, its basically going to be less than 3 months lease payments anyway so I can afford to write the purchase price off.

I have a that same car as a snotter, bought for 600 pounds 2 years ago and sailed through 2 MOT's, 199k so far. 2.5 TDI

maintenance does pay a part in the decision, as does condition but at 190k, though it could be fine its still done twice what a car at 95k has done, ok that is obvious but it isnt always as simple as it seems.

I'm running a 2003 9-5 Aero with 156k on the clock. Still good. Goes like stink and the overall condition doesn't look like 156k. It's got a tiny oil leak but it's not worth worrying about.
Everything still works as it should.
Great car the 9-5 Aero. Properly maintained it should do 300k +
Don't worry about the mileage.

Forgot to add, that one with 190k will have had most of the bits that fail replaced by now.
