Will a 1.6 8valve nova head fit on a 1.4 astra 8valve or will it require modification?

Its probably the same block and same sized head, with different crank and/or pistons, so probably.

That said ive never even looked at a vauxhall engine

Maybe you'd have better luck joining the owners club (PNG) or posting in the relevant section?
