I know I know! Not exactly the best first post in the world! "Hi there! I've just joined. Soooooooooooo I'm looking to sell something!" but I'm just looking for a wee bit of advice as, whilst I'm pretty good at buying watches I'm not that good at selling 'em. smile

I'm looking to sell a vintage Omega and am not sure where the best place is to do so. Is eBay the best place to sell it or are there alternatives?

Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

I'd use the two UK-based watch forums. But as you say, you can't just go on and sell stuff not because it's not the done thing but because they've both been set up to ensure you don't do that. If you can't be bothered to do the whole forum community thing then your best bet is PH's own sales section which has a watch section.

It's not that I can't be bothered with the forum thing. It's just time sensitive as I want to sell one of my watches to buy one being released shortly, however, the watch sites both have time based restrictions, understandably, that means a fast sale aint possible unfortunately.

Thanks for the reply though.

Yeah, there's that, too - you have to drum up 50/250 posts as well, IIRC.

I think this is your best bet: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/non-motorin...

I'm not a fan of ebay. Just don't trust other users. With the forums, you get peace of mind because regular buyers and sellers will be part of an online community so you get very little in the way of scams.

You can sell the same day you register on watchuseek and timezone, but with both being predominantly US-populated, you may struggle to get any bites, since you've no posts for members to get a feel for whether you're a scam artist or genuine bloke.

EBay is fine if you stipulate collection only and payment by bank transfer or cash but if you don't have a UV or pen note checker, you'd be advised to conduct the deal at his or your bank, where they can be authenticated.

PH classifieds will cost you a few to use (free to older members pre-2009 iirc) so you might want to use Chrono24 instead.

eBay's not a bad place to sell, if you've got decent feedback.

There are lots of buyers there and prices tend to be higher (The UK forums tend to be full of people who buy and sell a lot and see they drive a hard bargain...), which is good as a seller (although eBay take their cut too, so you might not be any better off).

Had no trouble selling some of my vintage Omegas recently on eBay. Got way better prices than I would have got on any of the forums.

For example, one I offered at £495 initially. Eventually offered at £350, and only one offer of £300. Sold on eBay for £530.

Thanks for the replies guys. I might give eBay a go after all then. Will also compare fees on chrono24.
