Engine crane going spare?
Discussion
Has anyone got an engine crane I could beg/borrow/steal in the west yorkshireish region?
need to lift the engine out of my old mustang, bang in some new core plugs, and put it back in.
Have next to no money at the moment, but this is pretty much my only blocker to getting her back on the road.

Are you planning on leaving it hanging on the engine crane then?
it's a little difficult to explain...the car is frontways in to the garage, which has an angled driveway up to it. I have only a few inches spare with the door closed, but can 'make' some room for the crane by cutting out sections of a workbench with a jigsaw.
I can roll the car back a few feet, but essentially when I get the engine crane in there to lift the engine up, check it, probably order different/more plugs lower it, and do the same a good few times, the engine crane will have to remain in place until I have the engine plus fully sorted.
hire one? nah buy a nearly new or used one for around £100- do what you need to do at your leisure (dont be tied down by any hire agreement or panic to get it back on the last day before closing time etc).....then resell it on. they dont seem to lose much money in fact i bought one for a ton and sold it for a ton after about 3 weeks. all it cost me was the petrol to collect it locally.
a nice bit of kit to keep though if you have the space......which i didnt.

Well I've just bagged a 1 Ton Draper for £80. They have replaced a couple of the pins that have vanished with bolts, so I'll have to try and source replacements or make sure they are high tensile bolts. Don't quite trust anything other than what should be there though.
It's a fair drive from me, in Driffield, but it'll do.

mebs even rent it out myself to recoup the costs
Quick search on eBay or Gumtree for engine cranes reveals you're not the only one with this idea - absolutely loads for rent from private punters at rates less than the likes of HSS.
Good idea but I'd worry about someone wrecking / failing to return my £160 piece of kit, personally

I'd be concerned if the hirer had public liability insurance too, what if the ram fails and drops the engine half way out ?Good idea but I'd worry about someone wrecking / failing to return my £160 piece of kit, personally
