Which inspection lamp

(I would put in Home mechanics but traffic isn't so high there)

After a new inspection lamp for working under the car. I like the look of the flat LED ones but I suspect that quality may be highly variable. Does anyone have any good ones they can recommend? Doesn't have to be rechargable. What do folks in the trade use?

I use a head torch at the moment, which isn't terrible.

But that's because crawling through tight spaces and access hatches you can get a bit tied up inside boats dragging lead lights around. Cheap but feels strong and @ less than £4 it won't sting so much if I drop it in the drink

My rule of thumb was to avoid rechargeable ones (of anything) unless I can change the batteries when the cheap oriental rubbish universally used in rechargeable products die in a few weeks of use. Swappable Nimh AA cells are cheap and branded ones are reliable. Hard wired ones inevitably fail and cannot easily be replaced. This lamp is dirt cheap, bright, and uses AA cells. I don't know if it will break as I have only just received it, but if it does £5.99 is the price of a Singapore noodle from a cheap chinky.

ETA leafspring has found a cheaper one that looks similar! D'Oh!

Can get lamps like that in Sainsburys for about £8, for anyone in need of one in a hurry.

I use this at work. Really bright and the battery lasts at least a week of steady use throughout the working day.

A lot of money for a torch but so worth if to me

I have a big Draper rechargeable LED lamp, and a smaller Ring rechargeable - both are excellent, go to a motor factors and have a feel/play before you buy.

Cheers. Not looking super cheap as I've a long history of disapointment with cheap torches. The ring ones around the 30 quid mark look about right. Are they bright enough?

This. I bought a cheap orange one, which is sold by a number of suppliers on fleabay, worked ok tbh for a few months but a dodgy connection means it is a PITA now, plus it ate bulbs!
