used audi s3 or new fiesta st2
Discussion
well as the title suggest , im torn between a brand new fiesta st2 or a used audi s3
fiesta st pros and cons to me
pros;
its brand new
fairly good on fule
fair insurence for a 21 year old
managed to haggle one down to £16300
looks nice
good b road car
fun to drive
cons;
feels abit cheap inside
abit on the small side couldnt find a nice driving position in my short test drive
do abit of travelling with the other half and unsure on long trip comfort
every man and his dog has one around here
not alot can be done to them without voiding warrenty
s3
pros;
personaly wanted one since they first come out in 2007 and my old man had one
much nicer place to sit
feels a much more solid product
quattro
found a nice driving position straight away ( normal seats)
alot of tuning products for them
more room for travelling
cons;
no warrenty to fall back on
cost of repairs is abit steep
seems to understeer alot when pushing on
will be geting one with between 40k and 50k miles
brand snobbery of people
opinions please

If you're after; small, comfortable, b-road, unusual, warranty, not undeersteery, then a GT86 is just about in budget.

Which ST are you looking at (ST1, 2 or 3)?
I would say ST, but fast Fords do make me giddy...
The Audi is obviously a much more premium product but come repair or even servicing time it will cost you more, which is always a factor. As mentioned the Mountune kit is excellent for the ST and due to the popularity there should be more things for it on the way I can imagine.

it would be an st2 as my ford dealer seem to tell me that there is no such thing as an st3 ( yet i seem to belive there is from what i have seen/read) yhe youth in me is telling me to get the ford and stop being old befor my time yet i still remeber being 13/14 and gorping at my dads telling myself i will have one of them one day I would say ST, but fast Fords do make me giddy...

the fiesta is ultimetly a kids car but i cant help but think it would be more "playful" and rewarding down a b road then a grown up seriouse s 3, yet the all weather pace of the audi draws me in just as much
True. Having a brand new car is also very nice and hassle free for 3 years....
Hmm.
Can you get an S3 used approved with a warranty for the same price as a fiesta?

Fiesta.
All road test I have read of both say the Audi's steering is dull and as communicative as a wall, and the car is generally not fun.
Road tests of the Fiesta seem to be the total opposite.
If you are interested in actually driving it, I can't see there is much choice.
I owned an S3 Sportback. Steering feel was very good for a modern electromechanical setup. The handling was also quite balanced; like most AWDers the car reverts to mild understeer and then pushes over all four at the outer limits (on a track). On the Autobahns here, it would cruise at 220ish effortlessly and will max out at 250. I'd focus on getting a 2008/9 facelift car, as the Haldex is functionally the same as the one in the latest Golf R (though the the EDS/e-diff is only effective up to 100 km/h) and is very good.
As another poster mentioned, the car is also in a different class in terms of quality, refinement, etc. If you can afford the fuel costs, I'd go for it.
thanks for the replies guys, like iv said both have there pros and cons, the idea of the new car is a nice feeling, how ever asmuch as i like the st i feel its not a car when i get out and walk away from i will look back at in that special kid of way as around here there are alot of young lads and lasses with them (most of wich i am sure have bought them because they are top of the range and not for the fun of driving them how they were designed) i know i will always want the other no matter wich one i get but after a few weeks of think i am swaying for the s3 the only worry is the amount of miles on my budget40k-50k ish give or take, how ever i still look at the st each time i pass the dealer
