Sky are discontinuing the support of them and are slowly disabling the HD channels on them.

They are offering free upgrades, but you have to ring in for it.

Model Effected: Thomson Sky HD model 8215

Channels to go first will be / are / have been:
History HD,
National Geographic,
Art 1 and 2 HD

More are expected to follow.

TBH Thomson boxes have been EoL for years and Sky haven't done a single software update for them in at least 3 years. If you haven't swapped them out by now you really should have.

Haha, you'd be surprised what is still out there, I have £6m apartments I support with original Sky+ boxes and even earlier single feed boxes!

So just heads up.

yes

I was in a place yesterday that is still using one of the original Panasonic boxes from circa 12 years ago! hehe

I guess the prevalence of cheap Dreambox clones complete with a 'C' line pushed Sky too far - they had to do something hence the new card pairing system which couldn't be supported by the old Thompson boxes.

thanks for heads up,

what does this mean to people abroad who aren't connected via telephone or BB? (for obvious reasons)

One of the best boxes ever made. Ive still got one kicking about, never breaks never complains.
The Thomson HD boxes were always rubbish, chocolate power supplies and the composite output was always going to get sky into copyright bother!

Within a few weeks you won't be able to watch an ever increasing number of Sky provided channels. In fact some channels have already been encrypted. Can you access Sky Arts?

yeh, 1 & 2, i'll keep an eye on this channel I guess?

we've got three dishes & packages here, had to replace the smaller of the three dishes yesterday due to the smaller footprint of new satellites, 80cm gets 100% on both inputs now.

I guess the only work around if we do start loosing channels is to replace the older boxes I guess? sourcing new boxes in the UK with the right coding?

2 of the packages we could go for free upgrades, depending on how this is done though, we still have these addresses to use but dont actually live there

I have relatives in Greece - they've been hit by the smaller footprint issue (BBC has now disappeared totally, even on a 2m dish), and have gone to IP TV providers now, instead of satellite. Works well too.

Will ask for details, and get it back to you. Will include the matrix stuff also - apologies - I thought I'd sent it, but never confirmed the actual pricing. Cheers, Bradders.
