Google Self-Driving Car Project : First Drive

Am I going to be the first member on here to hold my hands up and say I like the idea?
I love driving on the open road. I love trackdays. I love cars. But 90% of the driving done by the population - myself included - is going from A-B through urban areas and congested motorways; typically investing time and concentration in going somewhere I don't particularly want to be. If I can sit in a seat and chill, rather than drive, that suits me just fine.
Furthermore, they present the opportunity for roads that arn't congested through middle lane hoggers. Motorways that run clear and without incident for days on end. Better use of road space; if they talk to each other, there's no reason for them to leave as much space between vehicles. It's all good.
I'm going to embrace the revolution. Provided I can still get out in a proper car on proper roads at the weekend, I have no reservations about this idea at all.

I've always said I'd use public transport if it left from outside my door at the time I want, arrived just outside my destination - without having to deal with the great unwashed.
For those days when driving is a chore, when you just want to get from A-B with the minimum of stress, this is fantastic.

So you want to go to Point B. Great.Let's say "Point B" is my house. How do you tell it to come here? Well, obviously, Google Maps. Except that the postcode for here doesn't actually come here, it goes a short distance away, with absolutely no clues as to how to get here from there. And with no parking for our house.
So you manage to persuade it to bring you up the drive, somehow. What then? How do you tell the car to park over there, where it'll be out the way, and please don't block the public footpath?
Or you go to an event with big temporary carparks... How do you tell it to head up there towards the bloke in dayglo, and follow his directions? What if the carpark at the venue's closed, and you have to follow the signs to the alternative?

MmmmmNo a train is a device that gets you from one place that isn't near your house to a place that isn't near your work
And gives you a disease
A bus is similar but it gets you stabbed instead of the disease

It's called buffering. I'm sure with a 5GB lump of flash the car could store a roadmap of the whole of Europe.There will be huge legal problems with these cars. If you are drunk are you still driving? If there is an accident and a child gets killed, do you jail the car?
I think for many people who actually hate driving they will be okay, however they will slow everything down and take away the choice from those who want to drive, who want to be not part of a machine which has control over us.
What happens when some kid with an iphone hacks in and tells then all to stop or crash? Developers forget that there are people who will want to anarchistic.

I really wouldn't want to own or "drive" one of these ... but I like the idea!! for other people.
Why? Because parts of my journey will be sooooooo much quicker - e.g. if I'm waiting at a junction I can just pull out in front of one of these, secure in the knowledge that it will do an emergency stop to avoid me, and not give me any abuse or sound the horn!
In fact I can "cut up" one of these as much as I like on the road, with no problems at all.
They haven't thought of that ...
Why? Because parts of my journey will be sooooooo much quicker - e.g. if I'm waiting at a junction I can just pull out in front of one of these, secure in the knowledge that it will do an emergency stop to avoid me, and not give me any abuse or sound the horn!
