I am noticing a sizeable increase in motoring claims against either dealerships, garages etc.
What is the general feeling in regards to the manufactured reliability of new cars and also the service provided by dealerships and garages.
Do people perceive a general drop in standards? Or is it the ease of making claims??

Sorry, should have made it clear that it is purely an anecdotal observation.
I work in the small claims sector.
This subject of reliability was brought up because a close friend was the (un)fortunate few who ordered the 991 GT3.
Are there any independent surveys out there that point out reported car faults / recalls?

There's an 89.3% increase in the amount of threads being posted on PH about the increase in claims against the motor trade. Does that mean there's an 89.3% increase in claims or just an 89.3% increase in stupid threads claiming that there's an 89.3% increase? There has been a 42.462% increase in new posters who turn out to be utter cockspanners so I suppose anything is possible.
I think people believe nowadays that they have the right (sort of do in a way) to buy anything, a car in this instance, and it work faultlessly no matter what sort of punishment, lack of maintenance it gets and if something should go wrong then mr dealer has obviously sold them a lemon.

I pursued a small claim against a garage last year. The reason I had to do this was because they point blank refused to take responsibility for a failed part that they supplied and fitted because it was 2 weeks out of warranty. I made them an offer to go half way on the repairs, but they dug their heels in and ended up paying for the full amount.

In the past when I've had similar problems with other businesses we've come to a negotiated agreement. So my anecdotal experience it's because garages are being less willing to compromise.
