Let you kids ( if old enough) use your pride and joy or are they only allowed in the car as a passenger?

I can't answer as I don't have kids. My mate's dad had a really nice TR4A in the garage that got very little use. I couldn't believe it when he offered to let his son use it as his own, and he turned him down as he'd be embarrassed driving an 'old car'.

My old man's a tight bugger with the keys to his Porsche. I've got my national b license, can get a hatchback around the ring in under 8 mins 30 but will he let me drive it? Will he what!

I'm 37 by the way grumpy

I never let my dad drive my sports car.
Does that help?

My 19 y.o. son is actually a very careful driver. He always rides shotgun with me on track days. I'd love to let him have a go behind the wheel (me in the passenger seat) but of course it's the insurance that rules that one out. (I have track day cover).

My Dad, sports car? He wouldn't have known what a sports car was, even if he'd been run over by one...

Neither of them get a look in, much as they'd like to!

I cringe when the mrs drives it, let alone my sons! smile

Maybe that's why he doesn't let you near it! biggrin

I have no kids but luckily my dad always let me drive his sportscars, even if when I was 18. 15 years later we exchange cars and we even go out together for a drive sometimes, chasing ourselves in the hills. What it is "annoying" is that he still has more talent than me behind the wheel despite 27 years more to carry around.

Yes. My old man has always let me drive all of his cars.

I was driving his BMW 730 a few weeks after passing my test (on a fleet policy with no age restrictions in those days).

In recent years several Ferraris and Bentleys. He's also got a Mazda MX5 which I borrow occassionally for a quick blat around the Brecon Beacons.

Top bloke.

I had a (mint) MX5 MK1 and my son refused to drive it. When we were working on his car, we needed a bit from the factors and he HAD to drive the Mazda... he put a hoody on and sunglasses so no one would recognise him, ungrateful little git!

Oh, he's got an R34 GTR and he won't let me loose in that either!

I grew up with my Dad letting me drive his cars from the age of about 8 IIRC

He would take me to the beach and let me drive the car, on my own, wasnt a super car though, Rover 3500 V8S and then when I was older I washed his car every Saturday and he would let me reverse the car off the drive and up and down the close where we lived. It was very early in the morning when I did this.

Now I let my boys drive my cars, my youngest is 2 and will sit on my knee and drive, and on Monday drove on a private road from the beach on my knee....

Best thing ever as a kid IMO

I remember being let loose in my Dad's brand new Audi A4 3.0 TDI when I was 17 and the fastest thing I had driven until then was my 1.6 Astra, what a day that was!

He has always trusted me with his cars, said he will happily let me drive anything he owns. Fingers crossed he gets that RS6! biggrin

I usually find it's quite easy to spot the handy drivers, just ask questions; what's throttle steer, lift off, weight transfer etc.

Watch them in their own car - if they're smooth and progressive, or stabby and rough.

I took a massive amount of st for not allowing mates a go of my old Lizzy. But that's preferable to watching them ditch it backwards after coming off the throttle mid corner and not having the hands to catch it.

May be a stupid question, but what on earth is a Lizzy? confused

All I can come up with is the 1970s rock band, and that is certainly not right!

Guys - you know the answer to this ....

Cameron: Ferris, my father loves this car more than life itself.
Ferris: A man with priorities so far out of whack doesn't deserve such a fine automobile.
[Ferris caresses the car in admiration]
Cameron: No. No! Apparently, you don't understand!
Ferris: [ignoring Cameron] Wow.
Cameron: Ferris, he never drives it! He just rubs it with a diaper!

Cameron: What'd I do?
Ferris: You killed the car.

My son doesn't go near the Caterham - Never !

My dad always let me drive any car he had, a 3ltr Capri being the most notable (at 18 I was a GOD in that car)!
So I let him drive my Porsches.

My son is only 4 but he likes to drive my computer game cars. My Daughter (3) is quite keen as well much to her mothers disgust.

My old man was never keen on letting me drive his.
That's why I used to wait until he had gone out, before helping myself.

500 SEC AMG, 500 SELS AMG, various Jags and my mum's Granada 2.8i Ghia X. Oh, and his speed boat.

This was over a spell of a few years. I think this type of thing is frowned upon now.
