Ok, as above;

Im looking for a new car, can occasionally bang out a fair few miles for work so looking for a diesel.

Ideally I want something with a bit of poke, but also would like cheap tax brackets.

So far the BMW 123D looks a pretty good option if I can find one for the price.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Cheers

Probably a bit over budget unless I look at the ones with 150+k on them. Which I know isnt always an issue, but ideally id like more.

Bmw 335D?

Can get some within budget now, if not a 330D with a remap will give similar performance.

Depending on your mileage though, I would consider a petrol.

Skoda Octavia VRS has 170bhp or a bit of a left field option Saab 93 TTiD has 180 Bhp.

As above was going to suggest a 180TTiD Saab.

I know what youre saying, but my mileage can vastly differ. Some months I may do 500 miles, other months I may do 5000 so I prefer to play safe and get a diesel.

Ive had a look at a couple 3 Series too, just doesnt seem to be a great deal in the similar category.

Mercedes E350/E320 may be in budget now?

If your mileage varies, have you considered something like a Fabia VRS, ([with a Remap yo!] I follow one home and I can struggle to keep up with it and mine's no slouch)And something fun for when you do little miles like a 350z or E36 M3?

Unless there's not enough space, then I would probably settle for a 325/330/335D Beamer.

Ive just sold my Fabia Vrs, had a remapped 55 plate and it was great fun and did me well, just looking for something else now.

Trouble is, I have sold it and now have no car. Just a motorbike which is st in this weather, while I find a replacement.

Leon FR170 would get my vote. We are on our second one for the other half. The CR version we have now is the one to go for, smoother and more economical than the older engine. Tune to about 210bhp too. Haven't had a minutes trouble with either of them http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2014...
