Nephew training
Discussion
Had a 10 min chat with my nephew about his training, he doesn't say much(17year old) and I got the impression he knew best, but I couldn't believe it or maybe I'm wrong, so he runs every day and goes to the gym every day, one day it's shoulders and tris then legs then chest back and bis and he trains calves and abs every day. To that I asked how long he was at the gym he answered 2.5-3 hrs. On top of that he does football training and golf. I know youngens can do a lot but does that sound like over training?

The problem, if you can call it that, is that the fitter you get then the more energy you have to burn and the more you want to do. As long as he's eating and hydrating enough as well as getting enough sleep then I can't see a problem.A lot say you should get in and out the gym in 45 minutes and then go home to grow (which is what I do). Arnie used to train for 4-5 hours a day and look at him, even pre steroids he was huge. Everyone's different and usually everyone's body responds different to each way of training.

Unless he is just eyeing the girls up, maybe he's done in 40mins.
I wanted to say something to him but then i thought i could be wrong.
What about training abs and calves everyday?
Dunno about calves. To make it count, it seems a bit OTT if you're going to then use them in anger on a pitch. I wouldn't train calves the day before I play tennis, for instance.I wanted to say something to him but then i thought i could be wrong.

Abs - don't need to train at all if you're doing compound work. I expect he just does crunches and bicep curls for 2 hours, though.
Let's face it. He does tris and bis. Is he a pro BB? Or a skinny runt? Does he look like he trains?Hoofy said:
Tis a bit much, though. He could probably do it more efficiently. Or do it to an intensity that matters. Or stop f
king talking to his friends so much.
Yeah, I reckon he fits his weight training in and around looking at the local talent in skimpy shorts. If he's anything like the youths up my gym he'll be having a 5 minute break between each set to check his Facebook and do a small pose down in the mirror.;)

He's probably been mentioned on the gym fails thread.
When I used to go to the gym the majority of lads in that age group spent most of their time chatting, spotting, doing something on their phone, chatting, lifiting weights, doing something on their phone, chatting, doing a bit more spotting, doing something on their phone, chatting, a few more weights, chatting, spotting, something on their phone.......you get my drift; they actually only seemed to spend about 30% of their time actually properly working out.

Not to mention half hour in the Shower afterwards...Seriously though they (the fitness experts) say that 1 hour 3 times a week is all you need...
I can just see Arnie sticking to that can't you...
Anyway the young lad is gonna suffer burnout soon if that's all true...
Still a growing boy so he is gonna get huge if he keeps that up, needs to take plenty of Protein Shakes for recovery though...
