porsche 996 tt cab or porsche 997.1 4s

hi. i have a dilema. i have £35000 to buy a LHD porsche on UK plates. i have found an american 996 tt cab (04 model) without service book but with known history. the car is almost new only gone 7000 miles. however have to reset navigation (450£)plus park sensors. also it's on it's original set of tyres which will have to be dumped as they are over 10 years old. the alternative is another LHD 997.1 4s cab 2007 model with 38k miles with all possible extras. whichever one i buy i want to tune (tt to say 520bhp and 997 to say 400 bhp both at DMS). any advice on which to choose? i understood there were IMS issues with the early 997.1 but as said this is a 2007 model. is the performance loss in the 997 so noticable that it is best to buy the 996tt?

I'd sit in both cars and decide which interior you like more. Performance between in tuned 996 turbo and a 997C4S will be significantly in the 996's favour. Getting 400bhp from a 3.8 997 is not as easy as is claimed.

But as your looking at a cab I'd have thought it's not really just about power, so the the cabin quality etc. of the 997 may sway it. It's not just a numbers game.

Many thanks. Will try to bear this in mind. The turbo when tuned to 520 bhp is surely in another class performance-wise.

Only 7000 miless would put me off if you are intending to use it. Still on original tyres, no service history could be bad for the internals.

I would, and did, choose a 996 turbo over a 997 Carrera.

£35,000 should be plenty to find a decent 996 turbo, LHD or not, with a full history.
Low mileage, whilst supposedly good for resale values, does not mean it's a good car, and can be quite the opposite in a lot of cases. (Cars like to be used)

it's almost impossible to find a good 996tt cab on uk plates in the uk. there are european ones but the price is much higher and the miles a lot higher. they then have to be imported to UK which has become a long process. i will contact the porsche dealership on monday to see what they say. they have serviced the car and probably have some comments. vis. battery, brake fluid, coolant, etc etc. which should be changed if the car is going to operate successfully. however the actual mechanics should be ok i would have thought. will get back after calling them.
