Need a bit of advice if anyone has experience of a similar situation....In the back of my workshop is an old kit car that was built in about 1982. I have the V5 in my name however it is described on the document as a VW Beetle. Having read lots of posts regarding the difficulty being experienced in having the details changed on a V5 I don't want to restore the car to find I cant get the V5 altered.
I have looked at the DVLA website regarding altered vehicles and consider my car to be a rebody but the documents you have to submit make reference to cars that have just been altered and ask for receipts for the new parts where as my car has been altered for years.
The car is based on an unaltered full VW Beetle floor pan with original axles, suspension, brakes, gearbox and steering with the stamped chassis number matching the V5.
To cut to the chase...Can I get the description on the V5 changed (perhaps with an inspection) and if so can anyone tell me the most straight forward way to apply?
Thanks in advance...Chris

There was an amnesty some years back for this very problem, I fear that you have a struggle ahead as digital MOT now requires MOT tester to confirm if the car tested looks like the one stated on V5.
You have nothing to loose so ask DVLA and also VOSA
I think they will want you to pass IVA test
How I would approach this would be to use your V5 as identification of the donor then rebuild your car, IVA test it and then apply to DVLA for an age related registration
It is imperative that you look long and hard at the IVA manual regarding seat belt mounts and sharp edges as older kits tend to need modifications to pass

As I understand it the fact you have an unaltered Chassis means that it should not require an IVA.

What I would do is Google Paul Jepson, he offered as paperwork service for kit cars after working for years for DVLA. I am sure if he is still going he would be a good starting point.
